Maybe I am reaching a bit; but the Savage is a very strong gun and many years ago we were ask along with several other people to determine if we could what had caused a gun to burst like that and just the way it looks reminds me of that.
There are some different ideas on just what happens, but the results are always similar to an obstructed barrel.Lee
