Default Encore hammers breaking?

Is there any truth to what I have read that use of a hammer extension on an Encore will cause the hammer spur to break? My Encore is about 8 years old, and I put a hammer extension on it when it was new. It has had at least 200 shots through it and the hammer still seems to be ok. But, I am wondering if I should expect a problem.

Really, I do not know that much about an Encore, but I have never seen the problem discussed on the net and I know there are a lot people using the spur...

Some of those extensions have allen set screws that go in between the ridges of the hammer spur. I can see where this could break the spur if the screws were too tight.

The hammer is light and the heavier extensions have been blamed for some breakage.
The aluminium ones are ok but if they lock down with a screw or Allen screw be careful you can break them with torque to. Lee

The main problems with the hammer extensions are the steel ones with extra weight compared to the aluminum ones. The extra weight has contributed to a number of breakages in my shop so I install aluminum or delrin/hd plastic extensions. The more weight you add to the hammer the slower the locktime. Besides that, they may induce light primer strikes and may not be able to overcome excess headspace. Putting a heavier hammer spring in addition to the hammer extension helps both cases. Also I recommend better hinge pins like the accuracy locker by eabco to prevent point of impact shift and less movement overall. Sorry about the long post but to prevent breakages do not use steel!!!
