First off I prefer Loose Powder over Pellets anyday, I did run out of Loose Powder at the end of the Late ML Season and had to use 2 50gr Pellets to fill my final tag. Im up to trying new powder for next Season, how does the BH 209 compare to Pyro? is it stronger per volume? I have heard that BH 209 produces shot to shot velocities and your sabots are easier to load after the first shot. Also I heard your sabot (MUST) provide a tight seal in the bore for it to work at it's best, also it's suppos-to-be the least fouling???? Have you found any of this to be true?
Im not looking to shoot further as 150yds is my max and I usually get them a-lot closer, I was just looking to see what others use (not a magnum load) and still connect at longer ranges and still have excellant results. For now Im pleased with 105-110gr's of regular Pyro and it's results but Im gonna try some BH 209 to see what happens, they say if you find something that works stay with it. Again this post was mostly to see what others use and there results. Thank's rafsob Ron (BP) Now as to fouling. I was a the range one day and went to 25 reloads before I swabbed the barrel. I only did it to see if it would change the accuracy any. It didn't. The accuracy was great the whole time. Clean up was a breeze. I just use Hoppe's and it did a good job. Now as to load, I use a Hornaday FPB bullet with 100 grs. of powder and get unbelieveable results. I have only shot this load out to 100 yds, but believe it could go out much farther. I don't have a range to test my theory. But I can say that I first set up this load at 2" hugh at 50 yards with a three shot group touching. When I walked over the 100 yd range, I had a three shot group within 1 & 1/4" group at 1" high. Now I was impressed with the idea of only loosing an inch from 50 to 100 yds. I don't know what it would do out to longer ranges, but would have to say it should be impressive. I would recommend a trip to the range with a bottle of BH209 powder and get ready to have a good time running your tests. I only ask that you post your findings. Good Shooting! |

I am sort of taken with the FPB myself, mine is 1.5 high at 100yds- "0" at 125 yds- 3 inches low at 150 yds and 12 inches low at 200yds. Just though you might be interested as we shoot the same load. Lee |
The only longer shot I have ever taken with the ML was with my .45 cal with 85gr FFF T7 behind a 200 gr TC shockwave. The deer was at about 100 yards or more and it ran about 30 yards and piled up. complete pass thru.
