Default Tiss the season, was in the giving mood yesterday.

Yeah long winded, but was a great day for me.

I took the day off yesterday as my wife and son both had doctors appointments, but they were 50 miles apart. So while my son was at preschool I got a few things done like getting my car and motorcycle inspected and loaded both dehydrators up with more deer jerky. (Mmmm, jerky) Picked my son up from preschool and the lady there greeted me. Her husband is also an avid hunter and recently had back surgery so he will miss the entire season.

After my son's doctors appointment and getting 2 shots he was really thrilled. I still had time to sneak off into the woods for couple hours. I grabbed my .45 cal BP and headed off, got in my stand around 3:15pm. About 4:20pm I spot a doe about 70 yards through the open woods and she turns and starts walking towards me. 10 minutes later she comes around some brush and gives me a broadside shot at around 35 yards. I squeeze the trigger and send a Shockwave at her vitals. She managed to run toward me and stops 5 yards from my stand to my left. She falls over and quickly passes within a few seconds.

Once home (2 miles away) I quickly dress her out as sleet was starting to fall, my boy all excited that daddy got another deer (3rd this yr with blackpowder 1 with my .50 Hawkens and 2 with my .45 cal) My son asking me if I would teach him to hunt and cut up deer. I cut the backstraps out and placed them in a bag and place them to the side.

I carried the rest into the house and grabbed my son to go with me. I carried the backstraps to his preschool teachers house about a mile away and let my son give them to her husband. I still had plenty of meat for jerky, and not alot of room in the fridge left. Hopefully I made his day, he was thankful and said he was going to go and soak them.

Later in the evening I was talking to my sister and she said she had some deer stew the other night and wanted to make some. Told her I had as I just got a doe several hours ago and she could have the hind quarters if she likes to make it. She will have to come get it though, I have to work the rest of the week.

Wife went to my nephews basketball game, while me and my son played games and watched Charlie Browns Christmas and the Grinch together. Was a great day yesterday, way better than expected and really needed a day like that.
