Default Hornady FPB's

Fellas,

Just curious, how much powder or pellets you are pushing these FPB's out of the barrel with? 100 or 150 grain pellets?

What do you use and why?

THANKS,
Hoosier

I use 90 grains of Blackhorn 209 (loose powder). Plenty of power out to 100 yards (my current max range).

I also use 90gr BH. This is roughly equivalent to 5 gr more than 2 pellets.

I use 120 grains of Goex Pinnacle 2F with the FPB in my Encore. 120 grains of this powder along with the FPB bullet is a very good hog killer load.

My elk load: 90 gr of Bh 209 with the 350 gr FPB. Took a cow elk down last year at 80 yards and this year at 120 yards. Plenty of energy out to 150 yards, which is the max range I shoot!

I use 100 gr loose Pyrodex. Can't say there's anything magical about it. I have not tried another charge. My plan is to burn this last can of Pyrodex and switch to BH. Then I'll probably mess around with charges to find best accuracy.

Wink

I was using 100 grs of BH209 before I started to have some problems with the powder. I am in the process of working it out with the help of company reps fro BH209.

I may have been using the wrong 209 primers. I will get back with results. I plan on shooting the combination on thursday.

What kind of blood trails are you getting with these FPB's OR do they pile up on the spot and no trail is needed? I have had 1 go about 60 yards not much blood trail. The others have piled up within spitting distance of point of contact.

The one buck I took with an FPB was at about 40yds, bullet entering just behind right shoulder and passed through just ahead of left shoulder (quartering away shot). Heavy blood trail downhill to the spot where the deer lay down, about 45 yds from where I shot him. Lungs were jellified.
