Default Range time with new ML

Last week I bought a used 0.52 Knight Long Range hunter. I told the person that I would have to shoot it before I would commit to buying it.

He told me that all he ever used was 150 gr Vol of Triple 7 ffg and 375 grain Barnes bullets. After buying about $70 worth of Barnes bullets I was very very close to bringing it back. All I could get out of it was 3" to 4" groups at 100 yards.

On a hunch, I brought out some Blackhorn 209 with some 350 grain MZ bullets. Bingo!! Using 90 grains (weighed) of Blackhorn and the 350 gr MZ my 100 yards groups now were close to MOA. Three of my groups were slightly under 1".

I removed my 6 to 20 Leupold and installed a 1 to 5 power Leupold and headed back to the range. The benches were full at the 100 yard range so I went to the 50 yard range.

After one shot I adjusted the scope by using the moving the cross hairs to the bullet hole method. Here are the next four shots with the 0.52 Knight LRH.

The recoil gets your attention, but is managable. I was hoping for 1900 fps not 1950 fps, but it shoots so well at this velocity I'm leaving it. I'm letting a buddy use this ML for the Minnesota rifle season. I'll be using it for the Wisconsin opener on Nov 21. kl

Good shooting there. No worries that a deer will walk away from that one. But where the heck did you find 350 grain MZs Klundin? Didn't even know they made them in that weight. How did they fit in that .52 bore.

Bought them at Gregerson's in Baldwin Wisconsin. Currently they only have 375 and 350 grain Barnes MZ's. I talked to the owner and he said he will be getting 275 gr MZ's shortly. The 275gr and 350 gr Barnes are .358 dia bullets and the 375 gr is a .375 dia bullet.

The fit isn't exactly loose or tight...right in the middle.

Here is a picture of what the 350 grain MZ look like.

I'll try the 275 grain bullets when the come in. I would think the 275 gr shot at around 2000 fps should put down the biggest whitetail.

I'm pretty sure I won't be recovering any of the 350 gr bullets at 2956 ft-lbs of KE.
