Default Good load for a 12 year old

Anyone have a child around 12 years old shooting a ML? What would be a could powder charge to have them start off at? The gun would be my CVA Wolf, and I am currently using a 295 grain Powerbelt, with 80 grains of 777 loose powder.

I'd go with a 240gr .430 Hornady and 70grs of your Triple 7...

I think Hawkeye's suggestion is a good one. That would be an effective load with moderate recoil.

I'd stay at 80 gr. of 777. That doesn't kick that much more than your average 20 ga and it should give you good groups out to 100 yards or better. I've been using 85 gr. American Pioneer and a 245 gr TC Cheap shot for the past three years in my wolf and I love it. My 13 year cousin was shooting with me the other day and I think he's gonna use it. So in closing, I'd leave the powder where it is but switch to different bullets.

For about 5 years I hunted w/70g Pyrodex and a 240g XTP. I killed a lot of deer with that load. It's light recoil and preforms well on deer.

Thanks everyone! I was thinking about using the 245 grain PB, I just picked a whole bunch of these up the other day on a trade. ( I know alot of guys dont like the PB, but,I love them.) My main thought was the charge behind it. MD, you suggest using 70-80 grains of RSor equal, would I be ok with the same grainin 777?

70-80gr RS~= 60-70gr T7. I like how the T/C Cheap Shot has worked on deer for me. It's soft lead and will open and perform great at those lower velocities...and hey, it's cheap!
