Default 300 Grain XTP Question On Deer

Thinking of getting some 300 grain Hornady XTP bullets for deer hunting this year.I am now shooting 240 grain XTP bullets now and they shoot very well in my gun.All my shots are usually 50 to 60 yards in thick cover.Just want something heavier and would appreciate any feedback good or bad on these bullets on deer and how they expanded for you on deer.I am now using T777 at 100 grains and will probably go with that load if accuracy remains good. Thanks for any information. Mike

I do a lot of hunting in VA as well and hunt at the same ranges. I've used both the 300g MAGs and non MAGs in the .452 size. I prefer the MAG simply because they are a bit tougher. I like to be able to break shoulders down if I have to. I have only recovered one XTP in all my years of hunting. I have no reservation using them. I think 100 777 is just fine as long as it shoots well.

good luck trying to get them in 300 grain. the reloaders and panic buyers have bought everything out. i see some 240-s on line. maybe try those too.

Thats was i use , they work great in my Encore with 90 grains of 777 and the .25 acp . Just shot a mule deer buck the 1st of october at 150 yards dropping him . If you look around you will be able to find them . I have both the mag and no mag in .452 . Very accurate !!! So far i have taken two mule deer in the last three years with the 300 grain XTP and have seen two elk . The bullet has worked perfect . We have not recovered a bullet yet, as the have gone right through .

The .452 300gr xtp is my go to load. about every deer I've ever shot with these are bang flop. well had a couple make it 15 yards. inch groups at 100 no problem from LK-93,with 90-100 of RS.

Why change from the 240 to 300 if the 240's are working? I use the 240gr XTP Mag and they work flawlessley, never lost a deer with one.

I am going to try the XTP mag: 300 grain this year
My load is 85 grains of triple 777 and the hornady xtp in a crush rib harvester sabot.I think it should do the trick in my thunderhawk 50 cal.
I don't think the 85 grains of powder is pushing the bullet to it max:FPS

I tried two stores to buy them in bulk, but out of stock is all I get. I guess I can get some of the pre packaged ones. But I still have two boxes of the bulk left, so I will wait a little. I like the 300 grain. For my ranges, there is no difference in accuracy between the 240, 250, and 300 so my thinking is, why not use the bigger bullet.
