Default Good Day at the Range

Well, I had I pretty good day at the range today. Took the Remington Genesis with the Laminate thumb hole stock. It has the Simmons 4x32 Pro Diamond on it. (this was the first time I have ever shot anything with a scope, so I thought that was pretty cool)
Started out with the 295 AeroTip powerbelt, aas long as that is what I shoot out of my Wolf. I tried it with both 80 grains of 777 loose powder, and 2 50 grain pellets of 777, WOW! The Genesis really liked both of those. I started out at 25 yards first just to try some different combos. 1 little adjustment to the right, and it was right on. After the powerbelts, I tried the Hornaday FPB 350 grain. There was no way that thing was going down the barrel, so I didnt force it, and back in the box they went. Next I tried the 250 grain shock waves, same thing with those, got it stuck half way down the barrel, and had to take the breech plug out to push it out. So I gave up on those too. So I figured it was time to move back to 50 yards and try the PB again as long as they shot so well at 25 yards. I only hada 5 left, so I didnt get much shooting in at 50, but it was enough to know that this will bbe my go to load for deer season. I will be going back out soon when I get soome more Powerbelts, so I can move back to 100 yards, even tho 90% of my shots will be about 50 yards or under.

I never shot powerbelts out of my Genesis. Sounds like something I might want to try. I have shot the FPB's out of it. And yes, they start hard. You have to kind of balance them on the muzzle and then smack the short starter hard to drive them into the bore. They did well.

Shockwaves load fine in my rifle. Were you swabbing between shots? I shoot both the 250 and the 200 grain out of it. The best shooting thing out of it is the 250 grain Barnes MZ Expanders with two pyrodex pellets.

That simple Simmons 4x32mm scope for being a low end scope is a great scope. I really like them. It sounds like you have a good day shooting.

Thanks Cayugad,I did have a blast today. I wish I had time to shoot more often. I was swabing in between shots, and that didnt seem to help loading. I did get on here when I got home about the FPB loading kind of hard, and how some guys were actually smacking the short starter to get them started,so I may try that next time. I have to admit, that I am kind of a simple guy, and that is one reason why I like the Powerbelt. I really need to get away from that, and learn to try new things. That scope is great,I just wish we could use them durring the ML season. My plan is, to use the Genesis durring our gun season, (we can use a scope on them for this season) and then use my wolf for our ML season. Unless I decide to take the scope off after the gun season, and site that in with open sites.

I was using the Remington (re-branded Barnes, I think) .50 cal bullets and--despite their accuracy--I couldn't load one after the 7th or 8th round in my Genesis thumbhole muzzleloader even swabbing between rounds. I am using the Goex black powder EZ loads (100 grains). The I switched to the 250 grain Powerbelt Aerotips as well, and I can shoot 15 of those in a row without swabbing between shots once! I'm getting 2" groups at 100 yards with the Leupold UltimateSlam scope on top. Can't wait for ML or general gun season now!
