9/06/09 Range Day with Knight LRH
#1
I'm really enjoying shooting my new Knight LRH with the power stem breech plug. The stock is beefy, but I have large hands, and it settles in real nice on the bench.
I bought some Triple 7 ffg powder last week so I decided to give it a try. A couple days ago I tried shooting 83.6 grains (weighed) and ended up working up to the high end 100 grains (weighed). It appeared that my groups were tighting up a bit with 300 grain bullets as I increased the powder charge.
Here are the results of my three 3-shot groups using 100 grains of Triple 7 ffg powder at 100 yards.
Group #1 300 grain PT Gold with crushed rib sabots
0.721" c-t-c @ 1978 fps
Group #2 300 grain MZ with harvester E-Z sabots
1.14" c-t-c @ 1998 fps
Group #3 300 grain MZ with HPH-12 sabots
1.1" c-t-c @ 1988 fps
The real eye opener for me was the first group with the 300 grain PT Golds. Previously using lighter charges of Blackhorn and Triple 7 fffg powder I was getting 2.5" to 3" groups at 100 yards with these bullets. I thought my gun just didn't like the PT Golds. I realize one group doesn't mean much but at least I'm moving in the right direction.
