Default What Pellet Load?? 130gr? or 150gr??

Ok guys, it looks like I can get to the range probably either Monday or Tuesday depending on the weather. What pellet load should I shoot? I need to start staying the same with everything cause there are too many variables. So, with that said this is what I have (for those that don't know): TC Triumph, Nikon Omega scope, TC SW 250gr, Harvester Short Black Sabot, CCI primer. I will be using 777 pellets. Should I use 130gr (2x50+30) or 150gr (3x50)??? Does anyone know the difference in fps and energy levels between the two using a 250gr TC SW??

I am going to take ya'lls advice and go to the 100 yard mark and get her dead center but a few inches high. Once I'm consistent, I'll head out to the 150 yard mark where I want here dead on at.--DrAsus

If this is a new bullet for the gun, start at 100gr and work up. Or if you feel you need to start at 130gr, if you don't get good groups just go right down to 100gr and make sure it groups there before screwing with any higher.

Many, many guns don't like 130-150gr loads with lighter (200-250gr) bullets.

My Triumph shoots 2 pellets of 777 and a 250 shockwave with deadly accuracy. I took 2 long range deer last year with that combo.( 223 & 234 yards) If I was going to shoot over 100 grains I would go with loose powder.

To answer your question i would say 2 pellets.

My advice would be loose the pellets and start shooting loose 777. Cheaper, more accurate, and you can expand your capabilities.

ok guys, I trust you and I'll try 2x50 for a total of 100gr. I just know that the second to last time when I was shooting different bullets and sabots that I wasn't even on the target at 200yards. I started this last range session with 130 gr and was realitively good I thought...just high and to the right. Before the bullets were dropping so BADLY. I guess it just shows that better sabots, bullets, and primers DO make a difference.--DrASUS

The difference in drop between 100 and 150gr of powder at 200 yds would only be a few inches. If you were off a standard paper target, something else is going on.

Well if you must shoot pellets this year [ I don't like them for several reasons, for one they are irregular I weight a batch of them and there was a lot more variation than I get with a powder measure] Then I would suggest that you try them this way
2 X50
3 X30
4 X30
2 X50 +1 X 30
This is the range in which a Triumph usually finds a accuracy load, Very few shoot well with 150. Lee
P.S. When you get ready to do some serious shooting get a can of Blackhorn 209

DrAsus,

Your setup with 100gr of pellets and a 250 SW should be right around 1700fps +/-.

With the Omega scope your aiming points should be close to the following yardages (assuming your around 500 feet of altitude): 100 for the center; 135 for the 150 yard circle; 175 for the 200 yard circle; 195 for the 225 yard circle; and 220 for the 250 yard circle. This should put you within an inch or so at those yardages.

If you sight in dead on at 150 yards your 150 yard scope circle will be on at about 175; the 200, 225 and 250 will be as advertised but you will be close to 4" high at 80 yards so aim an inch or so low for shots between 40 and 130 yards.

I hope this helps.

dmurphy317--I appericiate your input; however I don't have the BDC reticle. I wanted it but got such a good deal on an Omega with the nikoplex (regular crosshairs) I couldn't pass it up. This is one reason I want to sight in dead on at 150 yards. 1) It will be my most common shot 2) I should have no trouble with 200 yards

Lemoyne---Are you reading my mind? I was actually thinking about this the other day. I think I will do 2x50 and get it really close to where I want at 100 yards...say dead center, 2-3 inches high. Then I may play around with 3x30 4x30 etc to see if they group any better. If they do..I'll go with it....if they don't I won't and I'll stay 2x50---DrAsus
