Let the gun cool at least 5min between shots when it is that hot. I know it is boring and slow, but there is no substitute for patience when it is hot. Years ago before I figured this out I wasted a lot of money on powder and bullets frustrated that my guns would not group, only to see the same loads shoot fine in the fall when it was 40-50 degrees out.

Just take another gun with you and alternate. Sometimes I'll rotate up to 3 guns so I am always loading or shooting.
I'll give it a try and rotate through a couple guns this weekend. I really hope that's the only reason.
I appreciate your tips.

I live in AR all summer long I shoot in 90 degree and hotter weather, I use loads up to 140 gr Bh209 and a wide range of bullet weights, I often shoot with several other people that have muzzle loaders. We often only let them cool for 2 minutes. I started muzzle loading 29 years before sabots came out for general use and have used them ever since they hit the shelf and I have never seen one burned like that. There is something wrong here, and it just might be a batch of sabots with poor plastic or a hole or bubble in the wrong place. Lee

The description sounds a little severe to me too, but lacking a picture I am assuming that perhaps the sabots don't really look the way his description brings it into my mind. I use those sabots a lot and if the gun gets really hot the accuracy goes away and you can see that the sabots are getting soft and deform more than usual. The problem is worse with the .40s because there is more plastic and less bullet in a .50cal gun. If the sabots are really burning through, you are right, there is something extraordinary going on here.

Don't suppose we could get a pic of those sabots, could we? Alternatively one of a nice bikini model would suffice.

I'll get a pic of the sabots to show you just what I mean. I was thinking it was just the heat but since I'm hearing that this is very unusual leads me to believe there are other things going on.
