How many of you know how to tell?

I will never use Bore Butter Again. I scoped my barrel out on my Hawken and......yup......RUST! I have many guns and have never let one of them rust. I am a gun cleaning fanatic. The last time I shot the Hawken before I broke my ram rod, I field cleaned it before I brought it home. As soon as I got home I gave her a nice hot soapy bath, dried her off, light coat of gun oil on the outside and BORE BUTTER on the inside. The I went to the range and tried all sorts of RB/Patch combos and had nothing consistant before I broke my ram rod. Shot eight rounds. Field cleaned, brought her home, cleaned, oiled and BB. Put up a post (above) and the replies I got were great. I took my barrel out and cleaned with windex, dried her off and took a look down the barrel. I saw a few things. The barrel is not even close to being perfect. I saw a few deep marks across the rifling, very distinguished rifling and some dull areas. I dont have a bore light but I do have a very strong flashlight that I shined down the barrel and was able to peek inside to see what was going on. After I was sure there was no plastic or lead orPyrodex fouling in the barrel, I broke out a can of Rusty Duck and holy rusty cow.......patch after patch came out orange/brown. After a good 30 min. of cleaning, the patches gradually came out cleaner and cleaner till all I was able to see was the discolored patch due to the solvent. Dried her, and OILED her with good ole gun oil. No more rust for me. Once I peered down the barrel I noticed a big difference. Nice and shiny, no dull spots. Ran a cotton ball up and down and no snags. Still have the marks across the rifling. I then got my Omega out to check it. It was fine. But I did remove the BB and used gun oil for it as well. My next day at the range will tell the story. I will let yall know how it went and if I need to do any lapping and if I have sharp rifling. From what I saw, the rifling is more distinguished that my centerfire rifles. Another factor in my equation.
