54 cal hawkens build update (new update)
I have a lock for it now. the barrel will be back to me monday. I also found out why the stock seems like it need it something. the polished brass just does not fit the blonde stock color. so when I go and order steel butt plate and trigger guard. brown them and see if they fit the look I want. the other option is blackening the brass. may do that before I order anything.
the lock is pitted the all the parts need a good cleaning. not looking forward to taking the lock apart. but I was able to get a nice trigger pull. had to play with the set trigger alot to get it to hold. I could get the hammer to fall with out the double trigger set up. still have a little work to do on it.

corey - you could try blackening the brass. Some brass blackens better than others and you probably won't get a uniform finish. But all it will cost you is a couple bucks for Birchwood Casey's Brass Black.

update.
the barrel is in. when I get my other computer up and running again I will post pics. but no I think I can with the polished brass. the brown barrel made it a whole lot better.
one problem. I can't get the wedge pin all the way in. the drum is touching the edge of the lock I filed some away but still won't go all the way in. check the thickness of wedge pin to my other hawkens the same thickness. I pics would help. any suggestions.
also took the lock apart (but for the hammer and tumbler. scrubbed real good. Has anyone try white lithium grease on locks as lube?

Flirst step - loosen the lock bolt 1/2 to 3/4 of a turn and see if it improves.
Second step - take the lock out, cock it, and see if it trips easily. Also check that the trigger moves freely in the trigger plate. If the lock does not trip easily in your hand back off the internal screws a little.
Third step - if the lock operates easily in your hand, start looking for where it is binding inside theinletted lock seat. The first place to check is if thebar that the trigger contacts is rubbing against the stock.
EDIT: Oops. Just realized you were saying your set trigger is difficult to pull. I assume you're talking about the rear trigger. How does it operate out of the stock?
