ORIGINAL: sabotloader Grouse45 The 300grn MZ expander is a fine bullet. When you start talking bullets and cost, a 300grn XTP can do anything that bullet can and maybe better. Here is some fine examples of 300 grain Hornadys and exactly why i do not use them... They can come apart even at ML speeds - I do not like that.... Don't use them don't shoot anymore..

Pictures, Ballistic gel test's, torture test's:D, water jugs etc, etc, etc. Mean nothing to me. It's in the field results that tell the story. The XTP'S have been excellant performers on game. Ask Chuck Hill how they have done on Boar. He prefers pointy high BC bullets but he'll tell ya. They have been very good bullets. No chasing Pigs with that bullet. As a matter of fact i shot one at about 10 steps with a 300grn XTP in front of Chuck and Randy wakeman. They both thought that was the most devastating kill of the weekend. It didn't even twitch. The Hog hunt in Crossville is or was a huge hunt. I mean like 20 people for a few years. You would love it. You get to witness alot of different bullets and results with different muzzleloaders as well. The 250grn and 300grn XTP'S are excellant choices for Deer and Hogs. ;) |

Fine and dandy but you better go shoot something with .452/300 grain Gold Dot before you declare a Hornady in the same class... BC on the Gold Dot is a really nice .233 also - getting right up there with those pointy bullets.... and not arguing the sucess of the Hornady only the fact there are better bullets in that price range available today... |

ive shot the 300gr XTP mags into sand with 110gr Pyrodex P and they performed great. I will have to look around to see if i still have those bullets.

No actually he is 100% correct in that statement - that is the only true measure of a hunting bullet.... "How does it work in the real world of hunting for YOU and only YOU" And to be truthful he has said the samething in previous posts about the Lehigh bullet. I think he and I know I have said - it has possibilties and we both have chosen to further the investigation of the possibilites.... The one thing we have never discussed in the past is that Lehigh makes 45-70 bullets that are used by a lot of 45-70 shooters - the reviews have been favorable - but what does that mean to you and I - nothing until we try it ourselves... |
