Nothing wrong with credit cards as long as you use some fiscal discipline. If I use cash or a debit card, I pay 100% of the cost. If I use my Cabelas card, I really pay 99% because I get points off my next Cabelas order. If I use my Discover card, I get I think 2-5% off depending the purchase. When I was a Starwood Preferred Guest American Express holder, I got a ton of points that helped save on hotel rooms when we go on vacation (but American Express ticked me off so I canceled it).

Just pay them off and don't use them as a loan mechanism. I have no idea what our minimum balance is, my wife just pays them off every month. If you get in trouble about the worst you can do is start racking it up on a credit card, then you are HOSED even worse it just takes a few months longer.

Cayugad's method has worked for me for about 35 years. i put much of my business expense onmy Cabela's Visa card: Lots of points for free stuff at years end.
