My LAST In-line - I Swear!

Well guys, most of you know I'm a sidelock kind of guy. I've always said the Mustang was my one and only in-line and I had no need or desire for another.
That was until I shouldered a TC Omega X7 at Cabelas about six months ago. What a sweet little carbine length gun. Got a hankering for one right away.

So today, the day after Christmas, I visited Cabala's to check out the prices. Wandered up to the Bargain Cave and, DANG, there on the gun rack was a stainless X7.

Thetag said Regular Price$549.99, SALE $476.99, with a Bargain Cave price of $428.99.

It also said DAMAGED - BUY AS IS - NO RETURN.

So I started looking for the damage. This is what I found in the location marked with thatwhite arrow you see in the first picture.
There was a Cabala's damage locator sticker next to the spot.

Other than that ding, the gun was perfectly clean and new - with the TC Manual package still attached.

Heck, that ding did not bother me at all. So I took the gun to the pretty lady at the Bargain Cave counter and
asked "Are you the section manager".

She says "No, I'm not"

So I say, "Can you call a manager and tell her I will buy this gun for $328?"

She looks at the tag and starts to pick up the phone. Then she stops, picks up a price sticker gun, dials in some numbers,
prints out a new sticker, and sticks it on the tag.

I smiled my best smile and say "Thank you very much". She says "You're welcome, come again."

I almost ran to the cash registers up front. :D:D:D Used my coupon that says $30 off your nextpurchase of $150and ended up paying $298 plus tax.

Yep, the LAST in-line I will ever buy followed me home.

Well I sure wound not have bought some old dinged up Omega for that kind of money unless they threw in a bottle of BlackHorn 209 :D

That is a great deal you got there. For that price you had to purchase it. There was no other choice as I see it.

Great deal on that rifle, congrats.

I've never done it but I have a friend that uses a damp rag and a clothes iron to raise dings in wood stocks. Depending on how deep it is you may be able to bring it back up to level, then just touch it up a bit and it'll be almost like new. Or leave as is for character.

Lay that rifle on its side and put a big glob of SPIT on that ding - leave it overnight.

May not do anything but we can all laugh in the morning. ;)

Accura!! :D

Traitor - that's all I got to say about that. Well you may as well go by that can of BH209 as long as you're at it.

Aww what the heck as long as you got it - hope it shoots well for you.

Nice bargaining in the Bargain Cave. Great looking gun. I haven't bought any BH yet but if I can find any more Pinnacle, I might be tempted.

Always like to hear of a great deal had by someone
Congrats

I believe a damp rag and a little time you can raise that ding.

I have done the wet rag and iron thing and it works on solid wood stocks, not sure how it would do on a laminated one. I suspect if the laminate is good the dent would just about disappear without any damage to the laminate.

Keith,

I was amazed at how a stock my friend did came out, the dings were almost gone on an old Winchester stock that had been used for many years and had the scars to prove it. I'm sure there is probably some place to find info on the proper way to do it. I may have to look that one up for future reference.

I found this, it's about furniture but the basic idea is the same.

I'd leave it the way it is.. that makes the rifle unique. After all it only makes sense that someone semisane has a dingy rifle too. As long as it shoots straight.

I really would not get concerned. After two seasons in the woods if that's the only mark it has, your doing well.

I do plan to leave it alone. It will remind me of the deal I got on that "damaged" rifle. Hope to shoot ittomorrow (unless I'm too busy skinning and butchering :)) .

Good buy. My X7 had a real tight bore. But if I could get it down the barrel it would shoot good. With BH209. JSG didnt work very good.. Good luck

SEMI, I think you really got a deal on that rifle, You would have to hang your head pretty low :(and not tell anyone if you didn't buy it. And that would haunt you for a long time just like bh 209 is now. :D:D:D

Inquireing minds really want to know but are to polite to ask.
Why did you pick $328. instead of $325. or 300 for that matter?

Nice looking rifle just the same. I also would let the ding be.
No BH 209 for me either.

:) Al

Ya right, your Semisane, ya think we believe that? You will now want a Triumph, and why? Just 'cause ya can. Beautiful gun at a good deal. TC will stand behind it, it is the barrel that counts, but men love beauty, not function.

Semisane is getting such a large collection of rifles he's going to have to build a new gun rack.. maybe he can use that frozen old nanner tree he has for the wood.

I stopped saying I am not getting anymore. Every time I do I come across a deal too good to pass up. So I will say I do not PLAN to purchase anymore.. :D

CVA doesn't have the muzzleloader version pictured just yet, so here is my "artist's conception" of what it will look like

http://www.cva.com./rifles-apex.html

The muzzleloader forearm will probably be a little longer though.

damn it I want one if that is anywhere close to what it is going to look like

Did you click the link? I think that will be a very close approximation (just mentally add a little length to the forearm). My understanding is the M/L will come as shown, but will be drilled and tapped for iron sights.

Now don't go ruining that pretty gun with a scope!! ;)

Cabelas tried to sell me mine with a cheap Pine Ridge scope on it, I actually had to argue with the manager that they'd advertised it with peep sights and were obligated to sell it to me so equipped in order to get them to go switch them back...had to wait 2 hours!!

I'm considering putting one of those Weaver rails with an integrated peep on mine, then adding a scout-style 2-7X or 4X scope on Warne quick-release rings. That way I could stop carrying my X7 AND my long-range rig when I go out as my hunting area is mixed fields and woods so I always need to be prepared for longer shots...which is why it took me 3 years to score with the X7.
