You guys probably think I am nuts. But I really am very careful with my powder and when I shoot my rifle. I have shot it in hot and cold weather, and high and low humidity. Never had a problem. The last time I shot the rifle was Sept. 1. I shot it one time. I hit the 1 inch bullseye at 100 yards. The same way the rifle has shot all along.

I blame myself. I thought I should buy a new pound of powder, but I was cheap.

I have shot several snow tests in high humidity to make sure the rifle was burning all the powder, even in the worst conditions. So I really do not think that is the problem.

I did get the deer so everything worked out alright. However I will probaly go back to straight BP and a heavy conical. I have all year to work that out.

For me Murphy's Law applies at all times.

I will check out the primers, but I have never had a primer problem in my life.

It just goes to show that you think you are doing everything right. But it is impossible to cover all the variables. However I do learn from my mistakes. No more 777 for me. Tom.

I do put the cover on tightly, with a piece of platic wrap under it.

I do the same thing with my powders and it helps. Also when making up 20 or so speed loaders, I do it inside on the table, with a mat on the kitchen table, not outside in the garage in high humidity. Keep the lid tight and don't leave it off for a long period of time.

No I've never shot anything through it except Pyrodex pellets and Pyrodex RS. Two 50gr pellets seem to work good and 120gr loose RS shoots great.

I wouldn't call year old powder too finicky. Depending how many times that can had been open or closed throughout the year, temperature changes etc. I am kind of anile and make sure I have fresh powder for the hunting season. I like 777 and its easy cleaning properties.

Almost 200 yersa ago a German General said "all skill is but a vapor if an Angel decides to pee in your touch hole. He knew Murphy on a first name basis.

I like that quote.
Angels do indeed pee in placesat times where they shouldn't be peeing.
