RE: Problem with 209 not firing

I suspect if you tightened the breech plug only hand tight and tried somedifferent primers, the problem would be fixed.

FYI. I always hand tighten only on all my breechplugs.

RE: Problem with 209 not firing

Welcome.

I had the same the gun before a burglary at my house. I also had the exact same problem only not on a consistent basis. I tried a couple times to repeat the issue just using a primer, but could not get the gun to miss fire consistently.

I was able to solve my problem, but sounds like you may be sending in a gun. Tryonly tightening the breech plug finger tight. Also, I found my trigger guard that you pull down on when loading and unloading was not locking shut all the way due to some fouling, dirt, debris, etc... I cleaned every inch of the bun especially the trigger assembly area. I then paid special attention to making sure the trigger assembly was tightly closed when loading. Since then, I have not had an issue. However, keep me informed, if it happens again I may be sending in a gun as well.

Do not dispair. These guns are shooters. Mine liked 245gr Aerotip Powerbelts of 2 pellets of 777 and a 209 primer. Anything out to 150 yards was going down when sighted in at 115 yards.

RE: Problem with 209 not firing

I did bring this gun into a licensed gun smith and he tried both my 777 209 primers and some standard primers, both had the same problem. He also saw that the firing pin was not hitting in the center of the primers and it should. He said send it in. I only hope I can get a shot off or two at some deer during this muzzleloader season which started today and goes to Dec 23rd. I can't believe that CVA can send a gun out with a manufacture defect that prevents this gun (muzzleloader) from working properly out of the box. I guess you get what you pay for....

mvandale ... the problem with lots of production house rifles or any merchandise for that matter is quality control. And believe me, it is not just BPI/CVA. Any additional step you add to the manufacturing processincreases the products over all cost and speed at reaching the market. Most companies find it easier to simply repair or replace the product should a percentage of them come out defective. If too many do, then they issue a recall. That is the face of business.

While there is nothing more frustrating then getting a new rifle and then not having it fire, in defence of the model and company you are dealing with, there are many rifles like yours that shoot perfect..

RE: Problem with 209 not firing

Well thanks for the explanation. It is just that frustrating to have to ship it and wait 5-6 weeks. If I can just get through the season with it I'll be happier then I am right now. Thanks to you and everyone else that had suggestions, they have been quite useful.
