RE: New rifle project-What to do?

I am using the Formby's tung nut oil finish. I put it on and let it sit for about 18-20 hours, then use 000 steel wool to work off the glazing. I am also interested in that glass scraping idea. What is that about, you said before about removing the whiskers w/ broken glass.
I found this while web hopping:
You need to be careful with the products called Tung Oil. Some are actually "Tung Oil Finish" and are a type of varnish that contain some tung oil, but are not pure tung oil.

If you don't wipe off the excess that's not absorbed by the wood, it will dry on the surface and cause spots that are gummy and 'splotchy'. These will cause problems and a poor finish job. Any oil finish will be the same.

It's important that you have a warm, dry place to let it dry for a couple of days between coats. I'm fortunate to now live in an arid climate, as the oil dries in a day just anywhere. If you live in moister environs, find a good place in your house that's dry and warm. My dad used to put the stocks in the closet where the furnace is, hanging from a reshaped coat hanger (not too close, of course).

If the finish is still tacky, let it dry more, it's not ready for another coat.

After a few coats of oil have dried, I apply some pure beeswax as sold for furniture restoring. Rub in by hand then buff to a nice satin finish using a cotton cloth. A gun stock treated well with an oil finish then beeswax will shed even heavy rain and snow and last a lifetime.

FG I bought a case for a dollar a can at an auction so I have not bought any for a long time but I used to get it at a hardware store, I get a lot of that kind of stuff from here also

you might try there if the local hardware or Walmart don't stock it.
There are several different schools of thought on ways of using it I like being able to add a bit of tung oil any rub it out some people prefer adding wax, it sort of comes down to what you like.

Started to shape the lock area. I think on the front i want to make it a little more pointy rather than rounded point. Your thoughts on the lock shape?

ITS CURLY MAPLE!!!

I was just doing some work with the sanding block and wiped down the butt and turned away long enough for the water to dry up and noticed long strips going over the hump of the stock!
