Congrats FG. I was able to eat elk for the first time this year and I must say it's wonderful. You got a lot of good eatin' there.

I went scouting back there yesterday evening and on the way out saw what looked like a small racked 3x3 and this morning my dad spotted a good sized doe. Went out again late this evening and down at the bottom of the creek bed, out comes a beautiful bear! Top back was black while the mid section and the face were dark brown and a white muzzle. Beautiful bear but a little on the small side. I figure if i can get to know this area better and pattern the animals i may stock up on private land tags next year.

So what distance did your shot actually range out at?

Congratulations, that will keep you on cloud 9 for a while. That will be some fine eating.

Ranged the shot today and it was exactly 140yards. I was 10 yards off my estimated guess at the time but that round ball got it done.

That is a long shot for a roundball.. and to think it penetrated both lungs like that. It just goes to show, put the thing in the right place and let it do the work.

Did you guess the ball would have dropped that far from your point of aim? Or was it more then you suspected? I guess really that is a mute point as the elk is in the freezer.. again, nice shooting.
