Default Got Another Small Buck

Got this guy last evening.

Wasin a tree stand watching for hogs or deer when this little buck came out and chased a doe that i had not seen. He stood still long enough for to bring up my right knee for a rest. Heard the bullet make a solid thunk.

The deer ran about 10 yards and doubled up while standing for a minute or two. Then he tried to run for about 10 yards and toppled over. The wound to the head is the coup de grace since he was alive but not moving when i got there.

That cheap gun does two things well. It makes cloverleafs at 100 yards with that load mentioned above and it makes cloverleafs at 75 yards with 70 grains of Pyrodex RS and the 370 grain Maxi-Ball.

Will try to get to thesite to laze the distance later this week. That deer was killed in a small area ofshort grass and burnedsmall trees. Shot a coyote in that same area. The distance lazed at 147 yards.

The bullet shreddedthe lungs. The heart was not hit.

Time:5:49 pm-near last minute of legal shooting time
Distance: 135-150 yards
Standing broadside
Bullet did not exit.

Scope: Weaver Grand Slam 3-10x40 set on 4X
Gun: CVA Stag Horn .50

Load:
110 grains of Pinnacle FFG
240 grain Hornady XTP
Winchester 209 shotgun primer

I agree, any deer with a ML past 100 yds in the open is excellent shooting.
Congrats

Lasered the distance yesterday with a transit and mirror. Distance was 136 yards to point of impact. Not tooshabby a shot for a 70 year old.
