Til i hit the woods for my cow elk! I'll be using my CVA .54 Big Bore Mountain Rifle with 80gr RS, double .015 patch and my home-cast .530 round ball *We all know what lead i use for them*

I am currently 2" high @ 100 yards so i think that will give me some extended range. Supposed to be cold on the opening morning so that should get the elk movin. Its a heavy rifle to carry but its darn accurate.

It will be nice to see at least one elkand hopefully get a shot at one.

Good luck on your hunt, i was curious as to how far of effective killing range for elk you have with that rifle ??

i feel comfortable to 125-130. The round ball pretty much drills a big hole into the critter.

Heres some new pics, i freshened up my barrel with LFM as i was doing coreys hawken. Original browning was worn off badly.

i am all set to go. Patches, a few speed loaders, capper, and my ball bag. I will be dressed traditionally including soft bottomed moccasin boots (Watch out for that cactus!!)
