Ever Cleaned Barrel This Way

At a gun shop about a month ago I talked to a guy I had never met and he said when he cleans his muzzleloader after shooting he uses a range rod and hooks a cordless drill to it.He then uses bore swabs with cleaning solvent and runs them down through the bore using the drill rotation on range rod and said he can completely clean inside of barrel in about 2 minutes. He said he then washes off bore swabs to be used again later.Sounded interesting but I have never done it and wondered what are your thoughts own this method.Does sound promising though if it works. It has been considered, generally, that you should not use a drill to twist clean the bore of any rifle.... There are some possibilties that you could actually damage the bore...

I think that would be fine (but totally unnecessary)for a smoothbore.I suppose it would do no harm so long as nothing touches the bore but well saturated swabs, but I wouldn't do it.

Perhaps a desperate person with a really cruddy, rusty bore. :D

I may try it with an old CVA that I've salvaged. Seems like no matter how much I clean, when I run a patch down it the next day there's more crud.

If you want to use a power drill to clean your rifle go right ahead.. after all its your rifle. That just is not something I am going to do.

Cayugad I am not going to do it either! The guy who told me just seemed to like using it ashe said it cleaned his barrel completely clean. If anyone here uses this method it would be interesting to see what results they achieve. But I will admit it did intrigue me though.I will stick to the tried and true method of patching it clean. Ahem, I'm thinking some woodwind players have tries that approach. Maybe they can report:eek::eek:
