More Genesis Work
![]() Wanting to play with the Genesis more, I decided to shoot some Graf's & Sons 2f black powder. So I loaded up 120 grains of Graf's and a 300 grain XTP .44 caliber in a green Harvester Crushed Rib sabot. On a clean barrel it shot a little to the the left but not really all that bad. The next three were right in there as a group with the T/C 1X scope. I then shot numerous charges at the center and they all hit about the same, two plus inches high but grouped well. When I tried to sneak them into the center bull, I realized it made it hard because I was always trying to adjust for the hight in hits.. I then decided that no where on my property would I shoot more then 50 yards. So I gave the scope seven clicks down and fired this group.. ![]() It was amazing how well that little piece of black tape stuck out for a aiming point. I was trying a load that Sabotloader might agree with.. the Speer Hollow Point in .458 300 grain with an orange MMP sabot. This was on 100 grains of Pyrodex P and the accuracy was more then acceptable. Over all this seems to be a good shooting rifle. Clean up was easy as usual. I took the firing pin and trigger assembly all apart, but they really did not need cleaning. And there is no blow back to the scope. I have been wrapping the breech plug like sabotloader showed and then a light coat of Slick 50 one grease. |
RE: More Genesis Work
Holy mackerel Andy!!!(you're old enough to remember that one Cayugad;) ).THAT'S a group. Ain't nothing going to walk away from that load.
|
RE: More Genesis Work
That might rate as the best 1x32mm scope50 yard group I have ever shot. Sabotloader always claims them Speer bullets are good. So I might hunt with that load. 100 grains of Pyrodex P should really move that 300 grain. I think that the bullet would do the rest if placed right.

RE: More Genesis Work
Dave,
Thank you - I did not know that Speer even made this bullet... I am headed north today and actually some .458's are on my shopping list. I was going to get some Hornady's but this one really sounds decent... BC of 204 and SD of 206 - rated as a big game bullet - I would think so! + it is a rifle bullet...Uni Core construction so in essence it is even bonded. DANG! how did I miss this one.... I can deel some recreational shooting coming on even if it is hunting season... Ya, it looks like it shot real well for you - dats un understatement - now I wanna try... you hunt with that and you shoot it - it is my prediction --> dead animal Shoot I hope I can find it in CDL... |

100 grains of Pyrodex P should really move that 300 grain. |
RE: More Genesis Work
Dave, that Speer groupis some good shooting out of any rifle.
|
RE: More Genesis Work
Shootin like that, Dave, you ain't got no excuses!!

RE: More Genesis Work
Whooo-eeee that's some down right good shooting there Dave. You better not put a post in here that you missed a deer with that rifle.
|
RE: More Genesis Work
Sabotloader.. do you think that hard of a bullet would expand on a deer if no bone was hit? I am pretty sure it would get a pass through. And it is really a well made bullet.
|
RE: More Genesis Work
It's designed for the 45-70 which operates at velocities very much consistent with ML velocities. I would have no worries about soft tissue expansion.

RE: More Genesis Work
I don't want an inline, I don't want an inline, I don't want an inline.. ....
Quit posting those tiny groups Dave. |

Well Dave, I did some more checking on this bullet. It is listed as a special purpose bullet as was designed to be shot in the 450 Marlin, unfortunately my trip around CDL yesterday produce no dealers that stocked the bullet. I ordered two boxes this morning from my local outlet. From all the information I can find - it is a Uni-Core Speer Bullet, therefor the copper should be bonded to the lead. It has a decent BC and and SD and was designed to be shot from 1400 fps to 2000 fps. I read, I think, Semi estimated 1300 fps with your load and I looked up my velocities for a .458/300 grain bullet with a 100 grains of T7 and I am shooting them at about 1750 fps, andI guess I would like to believe that your velocity is closer to 1500 than 1300 - so I am realy thinking that the bullet would perform very well on a tissue/muscle shot... I know it would on a shoulder shot + it would stay together. I still prefer the tissue/muscle shot with a lot of Hydrostactic on the way through. I am confident enough that I ordered some... That was the good news - now the bad - some might consider it an over-kill for the average whitetail - but boar-bear-elk -> it could really put the hurt on them as well as the average or larger whitetail or muley. As soon as some get here I want to tortue test them to confirm my theories... An a UC said that was some really goot shooten from that Rem... |

WOW!! I bought them by accident and they look like a real tuff bullet. 100 grains of Pyrodex P should be a good load. This might be a good hog bullet too for future hunts.. |
RE: More Genesis Work
Cayugad,
that link to midway, the heading says Hollow Point, but the close up picture didnt look like a hollow point? |
RE: More Genesis Work
They are a hollow point and they are built really solid. Also I use an orange MMP sabot with these. I want to shoot more of them in the very near future, but I might try deer hunting with them. I was reading the reviews on this bullet and they are hunting moose and black bear which is impressive if they thing this hollow point will not blow up in animals like that.
