Took my CVA Wolf out yesterday to work on some more deer hunting loads. After I set my target, shooting table, rifle rest, etc. up I ran a patch with straight alcohol both sides and 2 dry patches. Fired 3 primers and loaded up.
W209 primer
2 50gr Pyrodex pellets
300 Barnes Expander MZ
Crushed Rib sabot
100 yards
Pretty happy with this. I had shot some Blackhorn 209 on Saturday and while I gota goodgroup it wasn't near this good. Blackhorn powder is fine, does what it says as far as not having to patch between shots, even after 20+ shots. But it didn't group this good. Think I'll stick to my pellets for my CVA Wolf, save the Blackhorn powderand hope some day Knight will get off their rear ends and fix the problem with Blackhorn 209 and their KRB breech plugs.

My first blackpowder rifle was the CVA Wolf I got last year. Haven't really shot it since last year (hoping to this weekend!) but the groups I was getting were also pretty darned good for a $139 rifle, although not as good as yours. Some can knock these inexpensive guns all they want, but many of them can shoot some pretty impressive groups!

I got this onea little over ayear ago for $100. I've heard some Walmarts that still sells firearms sometimes run these at end of the year prices at $80. If I ever found them for that I'd buy a couple more just to have. Tomorrow I'm working on getting my 1187 ready for deer season. I bought some Federal Vital Shock sabots with the tipped Barnes Expander. I'll use my muzzleloader as #1 but always take a shotgun along on my trip as a backup.
