Well guys, I went on my first elk hunt last week.It was a lot of fun and I'd love to go back. Thought I'd post the results. We were in CO in unit 19. My brother-in-law and I had ML cow tags and his dad had an achery bull tag. We didn't see a lot of elk but what we did see was great. I'll try and keep it short. Wed morning at about 8:30 we had a bull bugling about 3/4 mile away. We cut the distance in half and he bugled again. At that point we knew exactly where he was.We got in position and Ibacked up against a pine w/the gun laid in the shooting sticks. Steve (guy w/the bull tag) was standing at the pine beside me.Steve bugled one time and a cow came tearin' down off the ridge. About 20 or 30 yards behind the cow was the bull. She came into about 30 yards keeping the bull at about 60yrds. He was a 5x5 with decent size. Nonetheless, the cow picked one of us up and froze. That froze the bull and he never would come within bow range. Finally she decided that she had enough and started to leave taking the bull with her. Since we knew we were not going to get a shot at the bull, I knew I was free to take the cow. She stopped in a clearing at 62 yards(per the rangefinder)and Steve blew onthe cow call. She turned back our direction quartering towards us. I touched it off and she dropped like a bag of rocks and rolled about 15 yards down the hill.
700ML
80g 777 ffg
Vegie Wad
460g Bullshop
Kleenbore Primer
The Bullshop went through her facing shoulder and exited behind the opposite shoulder.

In all the excitement, I apparentlyforgot to take a shot of the exit wound sorry. It was about the size of a quarter I'd say. That bullshop did massive damage to the shoulder blade! Ruined a lot of meat but unfortuatly that was the only shot I had so I had to take it.
Here'sa pic of the shoulder after it was skined. I pulled the shoulder back so you can see the damage the bullet did going through the shoulder and into the ribs.

Those Bullshops made believers out of the two guys I was hunting with. Before I left they made me write down Dan's website info.
All-in-all it was a very fun trip. I learned a lot and Lord willin' will be back again.

Here's a pano I took of the area we hunted part of the week and the area where I killed my cow.

Sorry for the long post.
A special thanks to Sabotloader for helping me develop a conical load for this trip! Mike is a first class guy.

Fantastic story and congratulations on the fine cow elk. You have a lot of good meat left, even though that conical did a number on the shoulder of that cow.. Makes a believer out of a lot of people when they shoot conicals.
Amazing what 80 grains of powder and a large conical bullet will do.

Excellent TN! I wonder what load/bullet you would have been using if you were not a member of this forum.

Golly - no wonder she went right down - not much would survive that kind of damage. Amazing that bullet would punch that shoulder and still come out the other side.
Wait till UC sees this - we will never here the end of what a large conical can do... 460 MTNex Bull Shop - "Best Dang Conical out There"
Oh ya! Congrats to the Remington 700ML - outdated and claimed by Randy to be a very poor gun - they sure do work...
Dang i would have like to been there for this one... Thanks for the post...
