RE: Blackhorn Fever - I Think I'm Cured
Not tool chatter, Lemoyne - the marks were not there before yesterday's shooting session. I do now believe they are the result of gas cutting. Sabotloader, yes the White plugs are very hard and do not seem to wear out easily - if ever. I also recall reading Doc's Rockwell hardness numbers but don't know if that info is still available on his website.

RE: Blackhorn Fever - I Think I'm Cured
A while back on Toby Bridges website hpmuzzleloading there was some concern about TC breech plugs looking like that. He said everyone should complain to TC, e-mails, pictures, etc. because that is not right. After a couple months no more was said, so I e-mailed Toby and asked him about it and never got a reply. So what ever conclusion they came to I don't know ????? I havn't been on his website for a while since I found this one, whichIMHO is the best there is.

RE: Blackhorn Fever - I Think I'm Cured
"In regards to clean -vs- not cleaning between shots withBH209" I did some testing at 100yrds w/4 sub groups of 3 as field data points and normalized them. Not to disprove the exellent results that most of you are getting with this stuff, but with my skill level and equipment the resultsI achieved werebetter as much as a .500 on avg.from the highs and lows when cleaning between each shot. The conditions, loads & loading technique were all the same from shot to shot.My personal goal here is to achieve the best overall results to bring into the field. The problem I have here is this,"when i'm in the field I really don't wanna have the gun conditions foul when taking aim".Just because I achieved better results on the bench when not cleaning it?.So why would you guy's wanna spend the time creating this conditionin your gun?
Is your gun clean before entering the field? "BH states Not required cleaning Between shots."Maybe so,but its truly not for me. I wantmy gun condition the same as I were in the field. See results below |

how did you clean between shots? just a wet patch? if so what did you wet it with?

RE: Blackhorn Fever - I Think I'm Cured
I don't mean to be argumentive and it might very well be that you get better results with swabbing between shots but this sample size is too small to reach a statistically accurate conclusion. Another thing I thought of; Are you waiting the same period of time between shots for barrel cooldown in the swabbed and unswabbed examples?

RE: Blackhorn Fever - I Think I'm Cured
Not sure what to say about that, I did the same test with two guns the Triumph and the Omega and had opposite results. there's a lot of variables involved, so far I have come to believe that the right sabot for each bullet is part of the answer. I am using the short black Harvester with SW and SST the Crush Rib with the Gold Dots and the MMP-HPH24 with the XTP [all 250 gr] the only reason I can give for that is that's what groups best with a particular bullet. Wish I could understand why it would simplify what will work best with the next bullet I try.
Check TC Triumph loads thread it has some of the targets I was experimenting with. If you come up with any answers please post them, understanding exactly what makes the sabots function is a lot more difficult the just getting the to shoot good. Lee |
