I think the smokeless powder shooters have a place in this sport as well as anyone else. It is as much the responsibility of the people that purchase and use these rifles to be certain of what the rifle will shoot, how much it will shoot safely, and what you should or should not do, just as the store selling the products. How many large unnamed chain store sporting goods clerks do you think actually have read a black powder rifle manual, or know what a black powder rifle will shoot and not shoot. Thank goodness some of these do not sell smokeless powders.

For instance, that salesperson handing over smokeless powder when black powder was requested.. I hope you gave that person a good talking to and mentioned the ramifications of the mistake he made and what might have happened had that been given to an inexperienced shooter.

Its up to all of us to know our sport, and spread the sport to others in a safe and responsible manner. It keeps that sport alive then for future generations to come and enjoy as much as we do.

*** note to self.. put soap box away for good.

"Stroklund reloaded the rifle after he shot a deer" and if we had witnessed that reload...

I feel for the guy but he probably did something very wrong if he reloaded immediately after shooting at a deer. Sort of brings to mind my joke about throwing the contents of the first speed-loader on the ground to help calm your nerves.
