Default New Barrel Has Arrived

The new GM .45 LRH barrel for the Renegade arrived about an hour ago. Had to trim the under rib back about 1/16" to get it in the stock. It's in now and ready to shoot, but I don't think I'll be able to get to the range for another two weeks. Man, I'm horny to make smoke now!

Aww Semi you poor guy. One note. Don't get frustrated with the .45 on the first outing. Mine was good but was a bit erratic. But after the initial shooting session and a good cleaning, the second outing was much better. And I can see where it will get even better as I play with it.
I've been shooting Maxiball out of it and they seem to be shooting fine.
Now I will cast them and the 320 gr REALs for my 50s.

Man, `ya get no sympathy on this site.

Got a box of twentyHornady 285 grain Great Plains bullets for the break-in range session (fully clean after every shot). Then we'll see how she shoots with Harvester sabots and .40 180 grain Gold Dots. I'm also going to try the .41 210 grain Gold Dots, but it looks like I may not be able to get them down the bore.

Good luck. I might add you might want to pull all the screws and lock tight them. Also throw the nipple away and get a good one. If you don't use it I would invest in some Pyrodex P.Again good luck, my GM .458 shot great from the first time out. I am sure yours will too. Ron

You're right about the nipple Ron - didn't like the looks of the one that came on the barrel, and the hammer didn't strike it correctly. Have already replaced it with a TC short nipple. Good thought about putting lock tight on the screws. I'll do that. As for powder, I've got a load of GOEX FFFg and that's what I'll be using. If it doesn't shoot well with that I'll try some Pyrodex RS and T-7 FFF that I have on hand and need to use up. But I'll be surprised if the GOEX doesn't do well.

I cleaned and oiled the bore and tried to load the Crush Rib sabots and .410 Gold Dots. No way will they go down the bore.

The land-to-land bore diameter is dead on at 0.451. In fact, I can push a .451 .45ACP FMJ bullet into the bore with firm thumb pressure. I've got a Lee .457 405 grain mold and some wheel weight bullets from that mold. I sized one to .452 (don't have a .451 sizing die) and could force it intothe borewith very hard thumb pressure. I think I need to cast some of those in pure lead and get a .451 die and see how they shoot over a wad. That would be a great bullet if it shoots well - a 45-70 twin. Shucks, I wasn't really looking for a .45 but I'm getting excited about it now.

275g Powerbelt Aerotip

Would be nice to see how those barrels do with the Powerbelts. If they did well, i'd be tempted to buy one for my GPR.
