Default Time to go shootin

Got the bobcat and all my equipment ready to go out to the 100 yard range. I think i filed enough brass off the front sight yesterday as it was hitting REALLY low. Going to sight this one in with a 295g HP Powerbelt and 80g pyrodex select.

Will have bullet pictures on the way after i am finished. Shooting into a 15gallon plastic bucket packed with fine sand. Cant wait to see what the 295 looks like.

Got a bunch of bullets back today! Lost a few during testing but thats gonna happen now and then.

Recovered 4 245g HP's from yesterday that weight 16 grams. Havent invested into a grain scale yet.

Recovered 15 295g HP's that weighted 20 grams and one 295g HP that weighted 18 grams.

All were in the classic mushroom that you' all seen in my previous tests. Only, thicker in the centers.

After 8 shots today, we "my brother joined today with his CVA Hawken" Switched over to Pyrodex P.

We were shocked when we went out to check the target and found that our shots went an aditional 3 1/2" higher! My brothers hawken was sighted 3" high @ 100 yards with 80g pyrodex select and a 295g HP Powerbelt. After switching to pyrodex p, it was then 6 1/2" high @ 100!

His rifle was printing 2" groups @ 100 which is really good for him because he hasnt shot at all for 6-7 months.

My Bobcat has the shorter 24" barrel and 1:48 twist and was shoot under 2" 3 shot group @ 100 yards. The front blade needs to be polished as i have a hard time seeing it in bright sun. As soon as the clouds covered the sun, the blade stuck out like 3 blondes standing in a pile of red heads.

Next we wanted to experiment with lower charges of Pyrodex P and my brother took 2 shots with 60g pyrodex p and it was grouping with his 80g pyrodex select charge! He liked the idea of shooting less powder and it printing the same @ 100 yards. He'll more than likely use this for hunting.

I tried 60g pyrodex p and for some reason i hit way low. The next shot however was right back in with my previous groups that i had shot with the 80g PS charge. I think the low shot was due to me having a hard time seeing that front sight.

I also was happy to see that i had filed off just the right amount on the front sight and was pin point on sight at 100yrds.

I'm working on the pictures of the bullets now and will post later on.

A beautiful 88* day with 30mph winds.

Top 4 are 3 245g HP's and one 245g AT " little green tip"

When i first recovered them i thought these were the JB Weld powerbelts that i made up, then i remembered the bucket is black and the hollow points were filling up with the plastic and then splattering across the face of the bullet when it hit the sand

Those 3 really shiny/coppery mushrooms were the ones fired with 60g pyrodex P. Not really sure what happened with the one that weighted 18 grams, it could have hit a small rock in the sand. Always something possible.

But, now you see how my 80g charge performs at 20,50,71 and 100 yards.

Whats that? Did i hear Semisane asking for 150 yards? Coming soon.

I more than likely wont be shooting the hornady due to them being illegal in Colorado. Hornady must have over looked this length issue
