recovered the reinforced powerbelt 245g
I shot that 245g HP powerbelt that i modified to see what would happen. I found it while looking through the sand box for round balls.
WOW! :DI may consider making quite a bit of these and use them for hunting and see how they do. I'll post pics as soon as i am finished with the lead hunt. With the GPR, i can tell you this... A .015 patch sucks major butt. |
RE: recovered the reinforced powerbelt 245g
Here she be. I'll post more. Right now the lap top i am using only has explorer and it screws up with photobucket and only lets me load one pic at a time.
![]() ![]() ![]() While looking through my sand box i smelled fire. I thought that was odd since its 80+ degrees out today. Walking back to my shooting area the smell gets stronger and i look down to find this! That powder that was getting blown out of the barrel from the GPR and 90g ffg goex landed on this log that has some really rotten/punky wood and it started to smolder and spread pretty quick in a matter of minutes. ![]() Shooting path, ![]() |
RE: recovered the reinforced powerbelt 245g
Is the pointy end the front or the back?
Did a patch land on that stump? That sure is food for thought. Wouldn't happen here though. Other than yesterday morning it's been raining steady.[:'(] |
RE: recovered the reinforced powerbelt 245g
Now doyou understand why the pointed brass tip made of brazing rod would do much for them? Lee
|
RE: recovered the reinforced powerbelt 245g
Pointy part is the tip of the bullet. So yes, The front.
|
RE: recovered the reinforced powerbelt 245g
I missed the modification. What did you do to the powerbelt.
|
RE: recovered the reinforced powerbelt 245g
I took a screw that fit tight in the Hollow point, cut it down to fit flush and then used a bit of jb weld to hold in place. Other than that, I just replaced the plastic aerotip with a steel flat tip.
|
RE: recovered the reinforced powerbelt 245g
That seems like a bit of work. I would be worried about consistency. If you are off center your bullet may start to wobble or tumble.
Why not just use Nosler Partitions and save all the grief? |
RE: recovered the reinforced powerbelt 245g
:DCuz sabots aint legal in colorado and it was just for fun.
Powerbelts or round ball is all i shoot. |
RE: recovered the reinforced powerbelt 245g
Good enough for me I suppose. lol:D
Don't the PB's have something like you toying with. Something for dangerous game?? with a steel core? |
RE: recovered the reinforced powerbelt 245g
Yes the dangerous game powerbelt. Expensive!
I wanted to play with this just for fun and see. |

RE: recovered the reinforced powerbelt 245g
So do you think with the steel tip, you could push them a little faster, & they would hold up a little better on bone? Is that your goal?
|
RE: recovered the reinforced powerbelt 245g
Goal was. well just to see what it would do. Thats it lol.
If i can find some more screws in this size, i will make some more and test them at higher charges. i used the screw due to the fact that when the lead starts to mushroom, it will have something to grip and hold on to rather than a smooth shaft to slide right down. |
RE: recovered the reinforced powerbelt 245g
That result is really neat gander, and not what I would have expected. So, the screw stopped expansion at the center of the bullet. I'm not familiar with the size of the hole in the PB - how would a regular steel BB fit in it? Could you just tap a BB in there and would it hold with a friction Fit.
|
RE: recovered the reinforced powerbelt 245g
BB will not fit.
I'll find some more screws im the AM. Right now i have to work on a new powerbelt forum. The other one isnt reliable and keeps screwing up [:@] |
RE: recovered the reinforced powerbelt 245g
oh no, what did you do to it gander;)
|
RE: recovered the reinforced powerbelt 245g
No BB, OK. Got a hardware store near by? How about some of those little short set screws with a socket for a hex wrench? Maybe you could find a size that you could just screw into the tip.

RE: recovered the reinforced powerbelt 245g
Hey FG,
At one time I was playing with the idea of filling the hollow point of a PB with lead and making a flat meplat out of it. It would be similar to the 444 PB but made out of any of the PB's. I got busy with other things and never got back to it so never got to test any of them. I'm sure your steel core idea holds up better than a lead one but is a steel core bullet legal in CO? I may try to make up some of myversion of PB and see how they shoot. I have some wheel weights that might help toughen them up a bit more than pure lead so that might be the way to go. If I get a chance to make some up maybe Ican send some to you to test in your sand box for comparison. |
