What kind of corn do you grow? Field corn is in the ground here and sweet corn is going in as we speak. What kind of tractors do you have? I think we should do a internet tractor show. Here are mine, a 1941 model A farmall and a 1953 Super C with fast Hitch.
I got the A from my dad when he did a couple of year ago. I drove it when I was a kid on the farm. The Super C was on a rock pile and was about to be scrapped out for the steel. I paid 100 for it and had it running in two hours. I used it this last winter to plow snow with. It turned out to be a great little tractor. Ron

This is probably a pretty dumb question, but I grew up in New York City and wasn't around tractors too much. So...

...why are tractor tires, the back ones, so large? I would imagine it has something to do with helping the pulling power of the tractor...?

Yes to a point the higher the HP, the taller and wider the tire. Also the hight of the crops also will dictate that a farmer needs a taller tractor.
Some of the old Farmalls are called HV, or AV. These were Model A's or H's that were VERY tall. the V was short for vegetable. These were tall tractors for tall crops. This first picture is a picture of a farmall AV.

This picture is my Farmall A in a parade. You can see how much smaller the tires are. Ron

I was born in Elmira NY, not too far from Trumansburg, 1 hr maybe, use to go to Watkin Glen with my dad fishing all the time at Catherine Creek, which fed into one of the Finger lakes that your near--1 saturday of April, was opening day always windy and cold. My brother owns a cabin in Woodhaull NY, and I hunt with a MLer in shotgun season every year up there. Always a good time that I look forward to. A farmer's work is never done. Best wishes on getting your crops in.

I grew up on a farm and even worked the farm with dad till 1989.
I collect Massey Harris tractors, do have a Ford 5000 gas. a bunch of garden awn tractors.
Since we got the bees we havn't been doing a lot of stuff with the tractors though.
This one is Kares 1954 Pacer plowing the drive this winter.

Kare has 3 of her own tractors. A 1946 model 20 wide front, and a 1941 model 81.
