Default trip to a pawn shop (wife will be proud)

I wanting to check to see what was wrong with the ML I saw at an pawn shop. it was an cva elkhorn $79 obo work needed. It need and bolt, it had the plastic swivel studs front was snap, ramrod need to be replaced, and the catch double or triple loaded.

the clerk then tells me they are not going to take load guns anymore. I wondered why the owner did not just pushed the loads out. stuck breach plug?

Also got to shouldered 2 hawkens one a cva and the other Charles Daly. Both looked great one the outside did not see the bores. cva $109 ugly finish. charles daly great finish did not see the price.

so what are you asking corey or are you just venting. My advice, if your going to be looking at ML, get yourself one of CVA's little bore lights. These are about 1 1/4" long and about 3/8" in diameter. You simply turn them on and let them slide down the bore. A little tip, the light is pretty bright so I put a piece of masking tape over mine and with a tiny hole in it to let only enough light through to examine the bore.

That Elkhorn sounds like a $9.99 gun.

Good advise on the bore light. If you can show to the store that the bore of the rifle is rusted and pitted, its a parts rifle. Normally they go cheap. Also it gives them the appearance that you know what your looking at and can tell if the price they are asking is fair.

I'd check it out. If its under $100 and its in good condition, buy it.

Cheap and easy way to see the inside of the bore is to drop a 40-44cal brass case down the bore and use a small Mag-Lite flashlight to see down in there.

Check and make sure the double set triggers function.

If it passes inspection and the price is right, You got one hell of a Powerbelt shooter in your hands!

I know one of them does. I played with it in front of the clerk, he did not know what the 2 triggers where for. and told me he never shot an ML. I said to him once you shot one, you are hooked.

I got a couple of small lites that work well as bore lites. I got some brass.

Well get your (_!_) to that shop tomorrow and check that rifle out! Get the price first and while your inspecting the bore, make faces, scrunch up your nose, curl your lip, upside down smile. Get the guy behind the counter worried!

If he gave a price of $100-130ish. Offer $75-80 as the bore will need some work, the double trigger doesnt work smoothly and will need a new spring.

Also, that charles daly rifle, Bring your TC New englander along, Leave it in the car and after you check that rifle out and get a price, Bring that NE in and work out a trade.

If either of those rifles have good bores, Its worth a shot at a low cash off on one and a straight trade on the other.
