new rifle arrived today,,,,

Thanks guys for your replys..I have been looking for one of these for
too long..It is the end of my collection..I had a 38-55,but never liked
it..I have the ones I want now and I am done for now..I have the
45-70 sharps I looked for-the 50 70 I looked for and now the 45-120..
The 45-120 brass is like 3 dollars apiece....I shoot all black powder
loads and cast bullets in all..So at 500 plus grains per bullet, the lead
goes pretty fast..As well as the Goex...I do plan on removing the
scope bases..I don't think this rifle was shot very much at all...It
should be quite a thumber,,,on both ends[8D][8D][8D]

I never worry about recoil from rifles unless I shoot a scope. Most of the time, if you have a good proper grip on the rifle, your body will do the rest and take care of the recoil. I've shot some large caliber rifles in my life. They were very intesting. While that rifle might have some substantial recoil, I am sure it will be nothing you can not handle. The brass is interesting.. and loading 120 grains of powder and that large bullet would make for a most interesting load. I cannot wait for your first range test.

I don't think you HAVE to put 120 grains in that case.
And I do believe I would shoot something besides true black in it if possible. Maybe APP would work well in that applcation??
T7 or black is going to EAT those high dollar cases.

I do not think you will be able to get 120 grains in the case, but it will be close. I am sure he will be loading a compressed load. Especially with the larger bullet he said he wanted to shoot. I am sure he will at least need a drop tube.
Why would you shoot something besides BP?? Tom.

I'd check with the load data for Trail Boss first. Then I'd work up to the max they suggest. This will give you a plinking, low speed round. AND will save your shoulder and your brass
APP products will corrode brass big time! You will have to get them rinsed out right away after each range session. This is very doo-able.I would be using 3Fg Pinnacle Powder, being very compressed, for bestpower and accuracy results.
