Just had to go with the flintlock for the second part of my homework assignment. I installed my LOL sight with the 1/8" aperature screwed in place. Loaded her up with 95 grains GOEX FFFg, a Wonder Wad, a patch lubed with Eastern Main Shooting Supplies' "Premium Lube", and a .530 Hornady ball. Took 4 sight adjustment shots at 25 yards, then put a target out at 50 yards and took five shots. Here's the target.

I was one HAPPY CAMPER with that group. Figured I'd give 75 yards a try. Took five more shots at 75yds. with the same load, and got this miserable result.

When I got back to the shooting bench after retrieving that target, I checked the sight. DANG, the rear sight is loose in the dovetail. I can slide it back and forth with my fingers, and wiggle it from side to side and up and down. Time for a "range fix". Got out the masking tape and did this.

So, with the sight taped down and almost secure, I took five more shots at 75 yards and got this. Not great -but might still be a sight problem. Next range session will be with the Lyman 57 peep sight installed (after all, it won't be hard to get the other sight off).
FORGOT TO MENTION - I called a bad shot on #4. Squeezed the trigger when I knew the sight picture wasn't right.

Yeah Gander, I was really disappointed. The sight seemed pretty tight when I mounted it. There must have been a burr or something that was holding it firm for the first round of shooting. I'm pretty sure I didn't bump the sight. Anyway, I really wanted to try my LOL sight at 75 and 100 yards. I think it's going to be the perfect hunting sight. But, before I stake it down I want to play with two other sights I have, the Lyman peep (which ought to be great for target work) and the Lyman hunter fiber optic set. Got all year to get it worked out, but this gunwill be with me on deer stand in early November.

i went with the fixed sights that came with mine. Thick front and the nonadjustable in the rear. Really love the sight picture. Very bold and stands out. Have the LMF solution coming in the mail so i can finish her up. Some TF flints too. They really are excellent shooting rifles.

I really like that thick and tall front blade on the GP also. It's perfect for a 6 o`clock hold. I'm a little worried though that it might be hard to pick up against a deer's body in low light. I plan to end up with fixed sights also. Pretty sure I'll end up with my LOL on the rear - it just works so well with bifocal eyes. Will probably haveeither the factory blade or a fiber optic on the front.

Good shooting there..I love that sight....I have found that
putting a bit of nail polish in the dove tail helps..Just an
idea..Or maybe a bit of lock tight.Anyway, congrads on your
sight job..It's always fun to tinker with things..

That is some fantastic shooting there. It shows what a difference a peep sight can make. None of them groups are bad. I would be tickled with any of them out of a flintlock with roundball... I think someone is hooked on his flintlock.
