6:16pm now here in the Pacific Northwest - Light clouds -I have the spotting scope setup and we are watching it through that - wish I had the abilty to take a picture... |
RE: full moon
crystal clear here and COLD!! Its only -6º so far, but dropping fast... I've been watching it slowly cover. There is a slight hint of red in the covered part already. I have my heavy duty binoculars out, since I sold my telescope and then never bought the one telescope I really wanted... figures. I tried to take a picture of it with my digital camera, but I just do not have the lens to do it justice. I should have bought a better digital camera too I guess..

RE: full moon

Gosh we are warm compared to all of you guys - but still Terry did not want to go outside and watch so she had me set up the spotting scope on a tri-pod in the kitchen sink - she turned out all the lights and is just sitting there watching... I have to go adjust the scope every once and awhile for her.... |

pick a city near you and you can then look at the stars and identify all of them. Tonight is the "blood moon." Its all red here, and the temperature has dropped to -12º already.. At least the wind is not bad. Or it would be cold out there.. |
RE: full moon
![]() Clear and getting cold here in southern Ohio tonight. All I have for taking pics is a cheap 8x monocular/camera, but it's better than nothing! |
RE: full moon
Wabi - very cool!!!! I need to get a better camera. My digital was one of the first that ever came out. It takes great pictures BUT digital cameras have made such leaps and bounds for a fraction of what I paid for this old one when it first came out...
|
RE: full moon
Never tried to take a picture with My new christmas camera. Paid about 375-400 for a Kodak DX3600 back about 2000. Takes nice pictures close.
The new one is a Z812 Kodak bought off the Kodak web site just days before Christmas for $325.00 has a 15 x zoom and digital zoom for a total of 50x. I have been shooting the heck out of deer with it from our living room window. Next year when that huge bucks steps out of the swamp I can get a picture of his rackunlike this last year. :) Al |
RE: full moon
I'm still using a Kodak DC200 plus. Yes, its that old. Still, it takes excellent pictures. It's actually so old that the new computer I just had build and am currently using can not hook to it with out a special adaptor. It runs off a serial port and all the new ones are USB so my brother is bring me up an adapter on his next visit so I can start to use my camera again.
I've been looking at a Nikon digital SLR camera with additional lens. I just have to convince myself I really need it that bad. |

This one. Kodak Z712 IS using manual settings. The auto settings don't work well for this. Edit: Forgot to add I got mine at Amazon and took advantage of the free shipping. At the time they also had a deal for a free 2 gig memory card for it. I think it was around $220 total. |
RE: full moon
Great pics Wolfhound- Thanks:)
|
RE: full moon
wolfhound; EXCELLENT PHOTOS!!!! I don't know much about photography, but I know a good pic when I see one. Those are amazing!! Hope our new printer does them justice.

RE: full moon
Those SLR digital cameras are really nice. I have a friend with a Cannon Rebel that goes to sporting events and makes good money selling the pictures he takes with his. I have another friend with the same camera that has many amazing flower pictures sold andpublished in garden mags every year.
They are expencive and sort of a bear to use in a deer blind when the deer show up and are gone in an instant. I used the old film SLR for many years. Our Z812 was a new model that came out in Early December ONLY at Best Buy and Kodaks web site. We saved $80.00 for buying it at Kodaks web site rather than Best Buy. Came with a 2 GB card(part of the offer, May have to buy the card seprate now.) and free shipping for $334.00. It works great in a deer blind, turn it on then point and shoot. I should have tried the moon shots I see after seeing Wolfhounds, with the Z712 about the same camera I have. The zoom is the same though. Squirrel at 80 yards. ![]() :) Al |
RE: full moon
alleyyooper... what distance were you from that squirrel when you took that picture? I have been doing a lot of reading on digital cameras the last few days, I have it narrowed down to the Z812 by Kodak, there is an Olympus that I have the model written down somewhere in this office, and a Nikon. My brother will be up today. His company builds custom computers (he built this new one of mine) and networks companies.. plus he is into cameras. So I will get his feed back, and maybe have him purchase it for me since he normally gets a good discount..
|
RE: full moon
I was about 80 yards from that squirrel.
One thing I like about the Z812 is the Lit. Ion recharable battery we bought for it. I think I also took close to 200, well over a 100pictures with the regular throw away battery that came with it so I don't think it is as hard on batteries as some cameras are. Father in law bought one last fall (I don't remember the brand) he got some thing like 12 pictures and the 2 double AA battiers were toast. :)Al |
RE: full moon
I use the lithium double A's. They are expensive but last almost as long as the battery pack. I don't like rechargeables because they always seem to be dead whenI need em.
|
RE: full moon
Wolfhound & Alleyyooper.. while I understand that the Kodak cameras you mention are able to be point and shoot pretty much, how hard was it to learn the manual settings? Are they similar to the old 35mm SLR with the F-stop and such when in manual mode. I really want a new camera and am impressed with what you have shown me these can do.
|
RE: full moon
For manual it's just been trial and error. I use the auto settings 99% of the time. The only time I use manual is for something the auto setting screws up on like the moon pics.
![]() This picture was taken using the sport setting. It's the setting I use the most. ![]() Another sport setting shot. This one was much further. ![]() Yet another sport shot. ![]() This one was taken at the regular setting. It was about 25-30 yds away. ![]() As was this. ![]() This was taken on manual. This picture was viewed at actual size and cropped to 800x600 whereas the others were resized. It represents a digital zoom of 50X. It's the largest shot I can get without using software to blow it up. The way I take these is off a bipod and using the short timer so my pushing the shutter doesn't wobble the camera in shot. Exposure time 1/250th of a second at ISO 64. I also used the landscape setting which helps on these IMO. |
RE: full moon
I am impressed.. that really is what I am looking for in a camera. I think I need to look further into the one you have or the one alleyyooper as which I think is the newer model above yours...

RE: full moon
While I highly recommend Kodaks cameras I can not say the same for their easy share program.
I use the card readers built into the computer and then use HP image zone plus or microsoft picture it express 9 to down size the pictures and any inhancingI want do to send to a photo server like imagecave or shutterfly. I really would like to find a program where I could high lite say a dozen pictures and down size them at once to say 600 x 400 pixles. Battieries For the Z 712 and Z 812 is anothe nice feature. You can use AA, AA rechargeables, CRV, and CRV rechargeables and the Lit. Ion ones. Buy the latter two from say Radio Shack. Auto shoot, sport setting on a partly cloudyday, 75 to 80 yards away. ![]() :) Al |

RE: full moon
Well my brother came up yesterday and installed a serial card on the mother board so my old camera can work. Yes it is that old. It was one of the first Digital Cameras that came out I think. It still works and takes excellent pictures though. He also brought me another camera from his store to play with. It is a Cannon PowerShot A460. It is nothing fancy like yours, but has a lot of gadgets and whistles to keep me occupied. He told me to learn how to use it, and then if I wanted something better he would get me one of them. So today I was taking pictures, and video, and all sorts of things with it. Makes me want a better one all the more. :D:D:D

RE: full moon
;)Just becarefull what you spend on the new camera. :DWouldn't want to see you not get the new KRB7 cause you spent all your money on a new camera:D

RE: full moon
Al - that kind of talk don't help the hound hunt!! Have you noticed how well behaved I have been about purchasing new rifles and barrels. I am kind of proud of myself. I did not buy a single rifle this month. I am on the 12 step program. When I get the urge, I take 12 steps to my gun room and start counting rifles. It kind of brings be back to reality...
This new camera is pretty cool. I have been reading the manual (yes, some people do read the manual) and was taking some video of the dog to test the camera. Besides, he's an old dog, and it might be nice to have them video around in the future for memories... If this had a better zoom lens, it would be much more in line with what I want a new camera to do.. like the one you have for instance.. :D |

![]() That was with my new fancy Canon camera. It is my shooting range. I had nothing to do the other day so I shoveled a path down to the hard pack from the back of the house to the target. That way I do not have to wear snowshoes anymore to go shoot. I only cleaned out 100 yards worth. Its goodto get out once in a while and get some exercises... |

RE: full moon
Only trying to wint that pool on when you get a KRB7 :D.
I felt a little prod would not be considered cheating ;). One of my favorite pictures is of my granddaughter when she was 4 sitting with my Jewel dogon the edge of a sand bank pit I dug out. She had a stick and was pretending to fish and faithful Jewel was there to protect her. Jewel is a mixed breed pound pup part yellow lab and shri pia ( the wrinkled dogs). She is a photo contest winner too. I use the tractor to blade out the path to the target back stop Sunday. I had just finished installing the new clutch so just had to test it. If I had that much snow I would get the 5000 ford and snow blower. :)Al |
RE: full moon
Now you have a decent path to the outhouse too.:D:D:D
