I do both. Sometimes, take my flinter, take my sidelock, or my inline and future take my smokeless. Just depends on how I feel that day. Get ya another. You have to admit, they ain't like buying a weatherby accumark. You can get a rather affordable dependable flinter for less than 200 dollars.

Have never personally hunted with an in-line, but hunt with a buddy who uses them. I have never seen the least bit of handicap resulting from my use of sidelocks and flintlocks compared to him!! Besides, my rifles are shorter and lighter than his Austin & Halleck!!

Big Country

Where do you find a good, dependable flintlock for under $200?

I just bought a Knight in-line, but I would like to have a flintlock also to shoot and hunt with just for the fun of it. But I am not looking to put out another $500.

I saw some used ones when I was trying out the various in-line brands, but each one of them had a good amount of rust in the barrell so I passed. I would be interesed in a good quality one new or used.

Go to cabelas.com. You can get a CVA Plainsman Flinter for 150. I think they are good. I got one like that. Cabelas Traditional Flinter for 225. Or if you are a person thats needs something else, go to www.gunsamerica.com and look for a T/C Firestorm Flint for 250 or so. If you look around, they are not that hard to find. Just a few places for you to start.

Watch auctionarms.com or gunbroker.com for a used flint T/C Hawken.

I have yet to take my Cabelas Hawkin out into the woods. I bought it after the season ended last year. But as I was looking for a muzzle-loader to buy I could tell right off that the in-lines were not for me. I, also, have nothing against them nor the people who use them. I'm not sure what it is but I just can not wait to get out there with that old-fashion style rifle with a PRB like the hunters of old used to do it.
