RE: A "LOL" Sight For The Great Plains

Maybe I should send you my sight off the Lyman Trade Rifle and you could make me one like that.. :D:D
It's really a pretty simple and straight forward process. I made this one using nothing more than a drill press, a hack saw, a file, and some wet/dry sandpaper. The most difficult part was soldering the nut to the sight base. Had a hard time getting the solder to stick to the base portion. Ended up putting a very thin layer of solder on the nut portion, then C-clamping the two parts together with a coating of flux between them, thenhitting it with the torch (You need three hands and monkey fingers to do the C-clamp thing :D).

If anyone wants to give it a try, shoot me an e-mail with a phone number and the best times to call, and I'll talk you through the process.

Actually I have a friend a few miles away that is a machinist/jack of all trades, that can make about anything he wants out of metal. The tools and things he has is very impressive. He's made parts for my old machinery when I could no longer purchase them because of age. I am sure I can show him a picture of your sight and he will duplicate it. And he is a black powder shooter, so it should interest him a great deal...

thanks for the idea. I have the second sight for the rifle laying around here. Might as well get some use out of it.

The sights on the Green Mountain Barrels are fiber optic Tru Glo fiber optic sights.. They would not take a peep sight all that well, but the sights themselves are excellent.
