Default Need to ask a question.

I have come across a supply of printing plates that are mine for the removal of the same. They are ink free, Very clean but I was told that they do have zink in them. I took a sample home and it melts like lead and I really cant tell the difference.
Has anyone use this before to make balls with? Will the zink in the lead make much difference?
Thanks,
Rick

I always read and have been told that you use only pure lead for your muzzleloading projectiles.I don't know if the Zinc would matter on not.I guess you could try it, but I think I would stick with pure lead which is recommended. Ruger Redhawk

You'll find that pure lead tends to load easier, hold rifling better, give better accuracy, and perform better on game. If something better had been found in the last 300 years - retailers would be selling it now. But lead is all that you see for balls.

Trust God..........but keep your powder dry!

Rick, I talked to Big Bore about this and they said that it would crumble under pressure due to it having more hardness and you would have poor expansion. I would suggest pure lead if you want to cast your own, heck, go to a garage and get some tire weights.

pure lead is the only thing to use.
Chris, the tire weights are to hard also.
no more than you will make, just go and get you a 5lb. block of pure lead and it will last for years.

Thanks alot. Guess I will make fishing weights.
Chris, The tire shops here will not give or sell the weights. Somthing to do with OSHA they say. I thought that this would be a great supply. It looks like lead and even scratches like it. The guy that has it said he thought it had it in it so thats why I posted the question.
Thanks again.

Zinc is considered to be an impurity, even by those who cast rifle and pistol bullets. For the record, wheel weights are not pure lead; they contain both some tin & antimony. Both will make the lead "harder" than just plain lead, and I have had problems with R*E*A*L bullets using straight wheel weight material. Good luck and good shooting.

Rick,

E-mail me personally for bullets, I may be able to get you a sweet deal on Black Belts.
