I shoot 300gr/45s out of a knight Disc 22" bbl. I'm using 110gr of t7 fff. My son shot 2 deer with this load this year and one went about 75yds and the other droped in his tracks.(through the shoulders). 2 shots and 2 deer but do you think I am pushing the xtps to fast. Where we hunt ( U.P. of Mich ) all of our hunting is done when there is snow on the ground so tracking is not a factor. What are youre guys thoughts on this, should I lower my charge or keep it the way it is. Shoots 1 1/2" groups at 100 yds with this load. Also I should say that our shots are from 60 to 100 yds. Thanks Kerry

If the load is accurate and is working.. why fix it. Some people shoot them with as little as 85 grains of powder and are still getting pass through and excellent expansion. Since you have a lot more in the field experience with them then I do.. I sure am not going to tell you different. Congratulations on the deer..

If it ain't broke don't fix it I always say. I shoot the same bullet w/85 and 100g out of two different guns and get the exact same results. I simply choose those amounts because they are most accurate.

Tenmilephenom, The 300gr XTP is one of the best it will handle any normal muzzleloader velocity out of that 22 inch barrel. In this case it is not broke so trying to fix it will not go in the right direction. the experiments I did with them show best results from 1750 to 1950 FPS you should be right in the sweet spot.Lee

I shoot the same bullet with 90gr T7 ff. About 1600 fps. No problems here.

You have a very good load there, no need to change anything.

Congrats on the deer! I wouldn't change anything- sounds like a perfect load for your situation. If you were shooting the 240 grain XTP, there might be more of a question about pushing it too fast, but the 300 grainer is definately going to hold together at the velocities you're sending it at. Ditto what everyone else is saying - ain't broke, don't fix it.

I wouldn't change it...your short barrel lowers the velocity a lot anyways, so if it works, keep using it.

Tenmilephenom

My only question would be does your 22" barrel burn the full 110 grains or are you shooting some of it out the end of the barrel? My first thought is that you might be shooting some un-burnt powder out the end and on to the ground.

What are you using for an ignition source... caps or 209's?
