Be thankful you have a cold-you won't want to smoke as much.
Hang in there, quitting is probably the toughest thing you can do but it is definately worth it. ~Robert |
RE: one week with out a cig
The first week or two is the hardest, physically. The really hard part is getting past the psychological dependancy and getting out of the habits that steer you toward smoking. Hang in there. It gets easier with each passing day.

I am soon to be 70 and I have smoked 2 cigs. But I have always fought the weight problem. I like food!1 So I know how difficult breaking any habit can be. It is all about will power. My dad quit cold turkey and it wasn't fun sometimes to be around him but he never smoked again. Corey I believe you will make.

RE: one week with out a cig
Having the cold is a plus as it kills the craving to smoke. Although it is no fun having a cold.
Now that you have gone a week, you are over the physical need of smoking. It's all mental from now on. I think my doctor explained it as,the nicotine in the tobacco smoke reacts with thebrain receptors, andnow you are starting to loose the desire for the nicotine stimulation. Another thing that helps and this might sound silly... drink orange juice. Why, I have no idea. When my doctor told me to do that I thought he was nuts. Did it help.. who knows. I was at three packs a day for too many years to even think of. One day my nephew told me.. "You smoke too much." So I told him I used to.. and crushed the pack in front of him and never touched them again. That was almost fifteen years ago. Do I ever have the craving to smoke? All the time. I will not lie to you. All I do is think back of what a slave I was to tobacco and laugh it off. I can remember driving to the store in the middle of the night, because I ran out of cigarettes. If someone would ask me to drive to the store in the middle of the night for them, they better have arterial bleeding now. After a while you will notice that your sense of smell will increase. You will begin to smell things again you never new you missed. I once smelt a black bear approaching my tree stand long before I ever saw it. Anyone that's been around black bear know that musty wet stink they sometimes have. I knew a bear was near. The wind was in my face, and I knew that a bear was headed into the stand. Then I saw him. Also in stores, how many of us ex-smokers can walk by someone, and tell is they are a smoker, and whether they have just had a cigarette recently. The benefits of not smoking are tremendous. Hang in there. You will get a better sense of smell, your lung power will increase, your skin will be better, your respiratory and circulatory systems will improve, and people around you will not be put off by the smell of tobacco. |
RE: one week with out a cig
I watched my Dad die from lung cancer. I'll never forget the look on his face as he struggled for every breath until he took his final one. That devistated my life but I continued to smoke until Tyler was born. Rememebring the sight of dad taking his last breath made me realize that I was not going to do that to my son and haven't smoked in 10 years. Think of all the bullets and other stuff you'll be able to afford. Corey, if it gets tough, please shoot me a PM and I'll give you my phone # and we'll get through it:D. Proud of ya dude.
