RE: Idaho Elk - update

Well U got some good eats there Sabot, that aint bad at all. Is Cdaddy gona come over and wash your truck now? So nice when U can drive right up to the carcass too. I will never forget my first elk, a big cow, she dressed out at 398 hanging on the scale at the butcher in Winchester, big big cow. You saved the ivories didn't you? Anyway, that first cow, I was hunting alone and shot her just at dusk. Walked up to her and said to myself, "What have I done, this thing is huge". Dressing one out is an experiance in its self. I keep gettin hit in the head from the back legs while I tried to cut her open, them big ole legs hurt I tell ya. Now I make sure I have lots of rope, several flash lights and a couple a sharp knives with me. Oh ya, and I try to only shoot up hill.

I do not think you realize the size until you start cleaning one and the gut pile weighs more and is larger than a lot of the whitetail around here.
I have never had the privilege to hunt Elk. You make it sound asroutine as a day chasing whitetailswhen for me it would bethe hunting event of a life time. You're probably right on with that gut pile weighing more than a whitetail though. The deer we hunt around here are lucky to be 150+lbs on the hoof. My mom shot her first buck this year and it was the biggest deer that our camp has taken in years and it only weighed about 120lbs. So that pic of the cow in the back of your truck makes that animal look absolutely HUGE from my perspective. Enjoy those well earned steaks.

Sure wouldn't want to try and fit three of those in the freezer! Man that is a lot of critter! WOW.

That would a fun hunt but would be a mess to bring that much meat back to Ohio.
