Default License Required to Sell Black Powder

In order to sell black powder, the merchant is required to have a BATFE license to sell explosives: It costs $200 and is a big hassle.

See para 47, page 65 of the reg.

That is the way the government and insurance companies were able to drive the small sporting good merchants out of business. I had a friend that sold black powder, and other powders along with lots of different firearms. When he was telling me what it costed him to stay open each month I was shocked. Also the safety regualtion changes he was going to have to make just to carry black powder... WOW!! He finally gave it up. Like he said, Wal Mart was selling rifles and suppliescheaper then he could even purchase them.

You also need to have a special container. There are also some laws in areas that limit how many pounds a consumer can have. I know a couple of people who shoot cannon's in the reenactments. They told me they have to be very careful not to get in trouble.

It is also the reason the bast**** can charge use a hazardous materials fee. "Because they can." Tom.

You guys should try living in New York. Special regulations above the federal. Containers, limits on amount in the store etc. I live 7 miles from Pa. and there they just pile it on the shelf. Cabelas in Hamburg has at least a hundred lbs out in the open. Gander Mt. here in Binghamton gave up on their powder license after a couple years. NY wanted them to build a "Bunker" for storage. One thing we do have is Hillary-you want to share? Better pray she don't get elected. Don Imus calls her Satan.

Are you sure about black powder out in the open? Smokeless, Prodex, T7 have different storage regulations than real black powder has? Usually black powder is stored temp controled environment and isn't "out in the open."

i talked to the owner where i buy blackpowder and he said he had to have an explosives license and a safe to keep it in. The safe turned to be one of those old time early 1900's safe.

Pyrodex doesn't fall under the blackpowder regulations.
From teh back of Pyrodex and 777 1lb bottle:
(Replace Triple Seven with Pyrodex, as appropiate) "Triple Seven is nto an explosive regulated by Federal Explosive Law, but may explode if misused."

Triple Seven and Pyrodex can be shipped with any standard shipping method, there is no limit to the quantities you are allowed to carry. I bought ~250 lbs from WalMart when they put it on clearance at $1.00 per lb. (Pyrodex and Triple Seven powder)
