For a pass through, I would also suggest a 300 grain T/C Shockwave as long as you miss the shoulder.

If you get a chance PM "bigtimer" - he will tell you how to get a pass through with a huge blood trail anywhere from a short distance to 180 yards...

Sounds to me like if your deer falls within 30 yds, you don't need a pass through. Honestly, IMO, the perfect bullet is one that expends all its energy inside the animal and stops just short of exiting. I've taken many deer over the years with patch and ball and never had an exit. Heck sometimes never even a blood trail. But I found the deer and they were just as dead. Stick with what is working for you and hone your tracking skills for when they are needed.
