If anyone else shoots the 300 XTP's in 44 cal "off the shelf" in the 20 per box, likes them, and wants to order quantity, the sabots they come with are 19.248mm tall and need to be ordered from Hornady. It turns out the 44 cal sabots I ordered which are longer/taller came from MMP. There is a definite performance difference from my barrel.

My CVA Magnum Hunter loves 100 grains of 777 and those 300 grain .44 caliber XTP bullets in the short black sabots. That gun is nearly unbeliveably accurate with them. Those bullets absolutely do not shoot as well in the long sabots. ibought theshort black sabots at Bass Pro in OK City.Later this fall that gunand load will be used for mule deer and elk.

Yep, i am shooting the .429 XTP bullets in 240 grain and 300 grain in the short black sabots. i also have the long black .429 sabots but do not like them at all. The 300 grain XTP bullet has two cannelures. i also have the green .429sabots, but IMO they are not very good. Thw long black sabots that i have the stepped base. Some of the short ones also have the stepped base and some do not.

Do you know who makes the short black .429 sabots? I went to the bass pro site and the only sabots without bullets were described as "50 cal" with a picture of a green sabot. No further selection option thatI could find. Kind of strange I thought.

Do not remember who made them. Bought them in bulk packs from Bass Pro in OKC. i do know that some of the short black sabots that i have came with 240 grain .429 XTP bullets from Traditions. Some of them might have come from Cabela's as well. Will check it and get back with you.

"i thought the black sabots were for 45 caliber?"
Not all of them. Some are .44 caliber. They may be going out of style. It seems that the .45 caliber bullet is taking over.

This is getting confusing:
Falcon - the Cabela link takes you to the MMP sabots. While the opening picture is of a black sabot, were you to order the 50 cal .429 sabot, it would be green and longer than the Hornady green sabot.
Lemoyne - the link to Harvester offers the crushed rib for a 44 caliber bullet but not the high pressure short sabot for 44 caliber.
