Others have complained that theircompressed productsare just too flawed to igniteconsistently, andan articlesuggested thattheyneed to be crushed up into aloose powderto work better.
Their loose fffgis reallybetter because even their ffghas a verylarge granulation.
Being a new can, I doubt if ithad anything to do with moisture.Maybe the problem is thattheingredients justwon't work well when they are compressed so much into a pellet or stick.

Last year I tried APP for the 1st time. The sealedcontainer was not openeduntilat the range. Using 2X50gr pellets the results were horrible. After several inaccurate shots with glowing and smokingembers evenreaching the ground I concluded that APP was a mistake. Using T7 I was back to great accuracy and consistency. I went back toGander Mountain and told them of this extremely poor excuse for a blackpowder substitute but the only shrugged it off. An e-mail to APP explaining the situation went unanswered.I had read an APP add on this new powder and it sounded too good to be true. In my letter I even stated that is was possible that maybe I just received a bad batch. The only thing I think I would use APP for now is to go Bang on the next 4th of July.

Rifleman magazine tested all the black powder substitutes. The tester also had problems with the JSGsticks.
The tester recommends slightly crushingthe JSG stickswhen loading to getbetter ignition. i had nothing but trouble with with the old Clean Shot round pellets. They just would not light. Finally iresorted to a five grain charge ofClean Shot granular to ignite the pellets. This did the trick and two pellets were a very powerful load.

I still don't understand this, I have shot two bottles of JSG Sticks with nothing bu positive results... most 100 yard groups averaged around two inches and it went bang every single time. My hunting load this year is three JSG Sticks and a 300 grain Nosler in my Pro-Hunter... I'll post Pics of the critters I take this year,,,I don't think they will be happy with this good shooting combo!

Astrange thing happened during the Rifleman testing. They never had any problems with the three stick load of JSG, only the two stick load.

777 has the same problem, hodgegon told me 777 was 10 times more likely to draw moisture than reg pyrodex. i'm using shockeys gold now . i have been vacuum sealing my left over powder after the season, works great.

I bought a can of JSG sticks last night. I asked for loose but my gunshop said they quit making it because the sticks sold so much better. He told me to always crush them. 1 of two ways. Either in a ziplock and a hammer or down the barrel with the rod. They said never to shoot them whole. Drop them in and smash them a couple times with the rod and they will be very consistant. I don't know if this is new or not but the can I bought last night had White moisture absorbing balls mixed it with the sticks?

I seriously doubt APP has stopped production of loose JSG

Sounds like the owner/sales clerk is trying to move old/outdated stock

I put extra dessicant/humidisorb packets in ALL my powder jugs, including Trip7

I get them from work, in electronic shipment boxes. Restore them to full strength by puting them in the microwave for 1-2 minute bursts, till all the moisture is forced out.

Yeah, I looked at APP website today and they still sell it. Must be maybe they sold 90% sticks so they only stock that. So does crushing it make sense? To me if you wanted to crush it why wouldn't you just buy loose? I guess convienence of not having to measure is all I can come up with.

That's a good point.. why not buy loose and save some money to boot.
