Pyrodex RS vs. Pyrodex Select ?

What is the noticeable difference between the two? Would there be a preference using a no. 11 cap? Does the select ignite easier?
I'm almost learning enough to fire this gun

i was given a bottle of RS and only can use #11 caps. I didnt want any ignition problems.
I am trying to find some black powder, which i have been told ignites easier than any pyrodex.

Can't say I have seen a difference. I only buy Select if RS isn't available.
Here's a laugh. I've fired74 different loads over a chronographthrough my Mustang. I checked my records and have not fired the same bullet and powder charge with bothSelect andRS for a comparison. Oh well, another test to put on the schedule.

Normally if you prepare the rifle properly, Pyrodex will also ignite with little or no problems like black powder. Be sure and use a good quality cap. I do not recommend CCI standard caps, but their magnum caps are real good. Swab the bore before you load for the first time with isopropyl alcohol on a patch. Then run a couple dry patches after that. Check the dry patches with your fingers to make sure they are dry. If not, throw another patch down it until they are.
Then before you load pop two or three #11 caps through the nipple. This will blow the snail or fire channel clean, char the fire channel a little, and burn off any left over alcohol fumes.
Now load the rifle as normal with the Pyrodex RS. A #11 cap is more then enough to fire it. After dumping the powder, turn the rifle to the side if it is a side lock and slap the lock a couple times with the flat of your hand. This will knock Pyrodex into and in front of the fire channel. Then when you shoot that cap it will go off sweet.
If hunting with Pyrodex RS and your concerned about ignition. After you load the rifle, pull the nipple and with your DRY fingers, put a little Pyrodex into the nipple channel. Then put the nipple back in place. With that Pyrodex under the actual fire hole of the nipple the rifle will be almost 100% sure of going off. Also if you ever get a load that does not want to fire, remove the nipple and put some powder down there. Poke it down with your nipple pick if you have one. Replace the nipple and then cap and fire.
You can also pull the nipple and pack Pyrodex RS into the nipple hole enough that you can blow a ball out, in the even you dry holed the rifle and forgot to load powder.... Good luck with the rifle.

Dynamite Noble 1075 are my caps of choice. They are the ones I use whena rifle is stubborn. I do not think you will have any problem making a rifle fire with those caps. I've been shooting off Pyrodex for 20 years with #11 caps. You should be fine.
