RE: Shot the new Staghorn!
Looks like you found a load it likes! Nothing wrong with that accuracy.

RE: Shot the new Staghorn!
Work has started on the stock. So far ive added a medium coating of Bondo to the inside of the stock to add weight. Weighs in at 6lbs 6.5oz. Im shooting for a minimum of 7 1/2lbs. The heavier the better. For me anyways. Did the paper test and i have very little material to remove thats touching the sides of the barrel. Stock seems solid, i cant get any twisting motion out of it no matter how hard i bend it over my knee. So far everything has gone smooth with the rifle.

I thought CVA warned against using heavy conicals/bullets in their owners manuals... is that true?

RE: Shot the new Staghorn!
they have a 400 grain /100 grains powder limit. Im way under. 348 grain 3 pellet max load with a conical. Theres crazy people on here shooting the 460 grain bullets out of their cva's. Thats to much for me:D

RE: Shot the new Staghorn!
Congrats on the good shooting gun. The Staghorn is worth much more than anyone ever paid for one. They are just as accurate as any other muzzleloader out there. Mine has zapped aquite a few deerand dozens of hogs.
If you ever decide to use pellets it will be necessary to change ignition to musket cap or 209 primer. Mine now uses 209 primers. |
RE: Shot the new Staghorn!
just got inside from shooting 100 yards with the staghorn. I missed the target on the first shot due to te target being a white postal box and the orange dot blends into it. Second shot i taped some cardboard to it but still had a hard time seeing the dot. Its shooting 6" to the right @ 100 yards. Its to darn hot out for any more shooting so i will wait till this evening and sight it in with my last 3 hornady great plains bullets. Called the store and they are out of them again[:@] 3 stores i went to the other day and only 1 of the stores had the 410 great plains.
But on the other hand i have great news! Picked up a pound of fffg Goex blackpowder and will sight in my .54 flintlock hopefully later this evening. Its nice to have the real stuff again. |
