I've come across a White G series SS/Comp Whitetail .504 for sale. While I prefer a barrel longer than 22" I may be able to get the gun for around $200. Is this a good price for this gun?

If the rifle is in good condition, that would be a fair price. The Whitetail G series has one locking lug instead of two like the model 97, but all I have read on them claim them to be excellent shooters. Don't let that short barrel scare you, they will still throw accurate..

Yes indeed, if in good condition that would be a good price. On the mounting lug, if you can pull the barrel from the stock, one screw, and check where the lug is attached to the dovetail in the barrel. If it is cracked it will need to have it welded on or better yet updated to the larger square lug. Also look at the end of the mounting screw and inside the threaded lug, if the screw is bottoming out in the hole you will want to grind a little of the bolt so it no longer bottoms out, if it does bottom out it can pull the lug right out of the barrel. A bed job if not already done a bed job is a good idea.
The 22 inche bbl is only 2 inches shorter than the White S91. You will find the Whitetail shoulders quickly and is nice to carry all day.

Thanks for all the info. Unfortunately the gun is not local so I can't inspect it. I will see if I can get some more info from the seller. In the mean time do any of you guys want to get rid of one of you ultra mags from SW?
